Blotter: Business dumped private files in bin
11:39 PM CDT on Friday, August 1, 2008
Denton police responded to a call from a school in the 1400 block of Malone Street on Thursday about someone having filled the school Dumpster with boxes of files.
An officer looked through the extensive pile of boxes and learned they all contained business files. Some of the files had customers’ personal information on them, according to the report.
The officer found names of business owners and called them, telling them they needed to come to the Dumpster. The owners explained that they shut down the business and thought the school would be able to recycle the files, so they filled the bin with their unneeded documents.
The officer cited the owners and told them to take the files from the Dumpster and contact a company that disposes of sensitive material.
