Denton police officer suspended for fight
08:24 AM CDT on Thursday, July 2, 2009
A Denton police patrol officer has received a three-day suspension without pay in connection with a fight he had off-duty with another man.
According to the disciplinary action report filed after an internal affairs investigation, Todd Kidwell, an 18-year veteran of the force, violated police general orders when he conducted himself in such a way that reflected unfavorably on himself and his department.
Denton County sheriff’s deputies arrested Kidwell March 28 after witnesses reported two men fighting in a parking lot in the Cross Roads area east of Denton. They found the second man, who said he and Kidwell had an intimate relationship and had a fight, according to the sheriff’s report.
Kidwell was charged with family violence assault, a Class A misdemeanor. The district attorney took the case to a grand jury, which declined to indict the officer.
Kidwell was free on bail and on paid administrative leave until the indictment was dismissed and worked in an area with no citizen contact until the investigation was completed.
He could not be reached for comment.
