Power outage strikes about 300 sites in city

08:10 AM CST on Wednesday, January 23, 2008

An estimated 300 homes and businesses were without power for up to 40 minutes early Tuesday evening after a substation outage, a Denton Municipal Electric spokeswoman said.

The substation serves the area around Loop 288 and North University Drive. Power outages also were reported near Texas Woman’s University along Mingo Road.

DME restored power by about 6:30 p.m. by switching the areas to another substation, spokeswoman Lisa Lemons said. The cause of the outage was not immediately known.
