Proposed tree code changes
02:48 PM CDT on Tuesday, May 13, 2008
A public meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Central Fire Station, 332 E. Hickory St., to receive input on proposed changes to Denton’s tree preservation code. To read the proposed changes, click on the accompanying attachment.
The city and consultant firm Burditt have been holding meetings since January to seek public comments on possible revisions to the 2004 ordinance, which critics call confusing and ineffective. Many developers want the code to offer more site-design flexibility to encourage tree preservation.
Discussion at public meetings in January and February centered on tweaking the types of trees that deserve protection, strengthening enforcement of existing rules and creating incentives for developers to save trees, among other issues.
More information can be found at the city’s Web site, http://www.cityofdenton.com/pages/treepreservation.cfm>.
Comments and suggestions also can be e-mailed to denton@burditt.com < mailto:denton@burditt.com>.
