Two area teachers learn about forestry
08:07 AM CDT on Friday, August 1, 2008
Two Denton County teachers recently participated in the Texas Forestry Association’s second phase of the Teachers Conservation Institute.
Janet Latham of Denton and Wendy Marsh of Argyle attended the institute with 12 other Texas teachers June 22-27. The weeklong session gave them a working knowledge of Texas forests, the forestry profession and sustainable management of forest resources. Participants were certified as “Project Learning Tree” facilitators. Project Learning Tree is an interdisciplinary environmental program that enables participants to conduct workshops for other teachers. Also, volunteer foresters and other natural resource professionals offered a firsthand look at forest management. The week included field trips to forests, archeological sites, wildlife management areas and recreational areas.
