Two killed in head-on crash

11:53 AM CDT on Friday, October 3, 2008

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

Two Argyle men died in a three-car accident in Denton late Thursday.

Braden Spratlen, 18, and Fredrick Knabe, 71, both were declared dead at the scene of the accident in the 2700 block of Fort Worth Drive near Vintage Drive in southern Denton.

According to Denton police, the accident occurred just before 11 p.m. According to reports Spratlen was at the wheel of a Ford Mustang and Knabe was driving a Mercury.

“The Mustang was northbound driving on the wrong side of the road,” said police spokesman Jim Bryan. “The Mercury was southbound in his own lane. The two cars hit head-on.”

The impact spun the Mercury around facing the wrong direction, Bryan said. It then was struck head-on by a southbound Cadillac.

A male passenger in the Mustang and a female passenger in the Mercury were taken by medical helicopters to Dallas hospitals, Bryan said. The driver of the Cadillac was taken by ambulance to a Denton emergency room.

Names of those victims and their conditions were not released.
