Women Democrats launch new group
06:58 AM CDT on Monday, June 22, 2009
Kim Peters, president and founder of the Prom Shop Project, will speak about “Women and Philanthropy” at the Democratic Women of Denton County’s inaugural event at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lewisville Municipal Annex Community Room, 1197 W. Main St.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their gently worn prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, shoes and accessories to donate to the Prom Shop Project. Tax receipts will be available. Volunteers will collect, clean and provide formal dresses to students who are unable to afford them.
Peters started the project to help young women in the Dallas area. The project received start-up funding from the national nonprofit youth organization Girls Inc.
Also at the meeting, Democratic Women president and co-founder Judith Ford will speak about the organization’s purpose and goals. Door prizes will be offered.
For more information, call Judith Ford at 214-681-9696, e-mail jford@jford.biz or visit www.democraticwomenofdentoncounty.org .
