Hilltop’s Block resigns

11:54 PM CST on Wednesday, November 18, 2009

By Britney Tabor / Staff Writer

ARGYLE — Argyle school board members approved the resignation of a campus administrator this week.

Effective in January, Hilltop Elementary School Principal Robin Block will leave the Argyle district after 10 years of service to take a job as a consultant in the teacher preparation program at the Region 11 Education Service Center in Fort Worth.

The opportunity for a position that will further her career, Block said, is a new “adventure.” She said she will work with a future generation of teachers who will go on to mold children’s futures.

“I’m looking forward to just working with those who are striving to be the best they can be,” Block said. “I’m looking forward to doing something in education and to [using] my experience to directly impact education.”

Block’s career in education spans 19 years. She has worked in six Texas school districts, she said, serving as an elementary and middle school teacher, an English as a second language instructor, a diagnostician and an assistant and head principal. She has a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of North Texas, a master’s in education from Stephen F. Austin State University and certifications in the areas of ESL, middle management, diagnostics and superintendent duties.

She joined the Argyle district in 1999 as an assistant principal at Argyle Elementary School. She went on to become principal in 2000, and in 2005 she opened Hilltop as its first principal. Block said that she appreciates the time she spent working in Argyle and will miss her staff and students.

“They have blessed my life beyond measure. I will miss them every day,” she said. “I will miss the hugs and ‘good mornings,’ and everything about their innocence.”

Superintendent Telena Wright called Block a valuable instructional leader who has done a “fantastic job” in her roles at the elementary campuses.

Block submitted a letter of resignation Nov. 13, and her resignation was approved by trustees during a Monday board meeting. Wright said there will be a search for Block’s replacement.

After the vote approving Block’s resignation, school board president Debbie Cantrell thanked her for her service to the district. She said that Block set the standard for Argyle’s elementary education.

“We wish her great success, and we certainly give her accolades for what she’s given us,” Cantrell said. “We wish her the best in the future.”
