Blotter: Man reportedly punches, injures woman at a party
08:10 AM CDT on Tuesday, April 1, 2008
A man allegedly broke a woman’s nose and several bones in her face after an argument at a party in the 1500 block of Greenlee Street early Saturday.
The woman and several witnesses told police the man was intoxicated and the two began to argue about 2:30 a.m. He called her a bad name, she said, and she slapped him.
The man punched her in the face with his fist, knocking her out the front door onto the ground, according to the police report.
Friends took her to a hospital emergency room, where a doctor said her nose was broken and bones around her eye socket were shattered.
The man attempted to get into his car to drive away but his friends stopped him because he was too intoxicated to drive, according to the report. A friend drove him home.
The investigating officer contacted the suspect and told him he would be obtaining an arrest warrant.
The man agreed to surrender on Monday after he talked to his attorney, according to the police report.
Other reports
1700 block of Scripture Street — Police received several calls from around Denton about a van speeding through neighborhoods at more than 100 mph Saturday afternoon. The van had the name of a day-care center on the side.
Officers caught up with the van in the 8000 block of Warshon Street as the driver and a passenger tried to open a gate into a field. The driver tried to back away but was blocked in. Both men then ran from officers.
The officers pursued over barbed wire fences and creeks and finally caught one man, who said the other man wanted to steal a truck to go for a joy ride. He identified the second suspect, and police are obtaining an arrest warrant for him.
The owner of the day-care center said someone had broken a window and stolen the van.
2200 block of South Interstate 35E — Police detained a juvenile girl for theft after she was caught stealing an iPod and a cellphone from a store dressing room Saturday afternoon.
According to the police report, the girl and her cousin were shopping in the store and took some clothes back to the dressing room to try on. One of the girls noticed a dressing stall with some clothing, the cellphone and the iPod inside. The girl hid the property in her coat and left the dressing room.
The owner went into the stall, discovered her loss and confronted the girl, who gave back the property. The owner contacted mall security, who called police.
