Blotter: Road construction worker reportedly shot with BB gun

09:16 AM CDT on Saturday, April 19, 2008

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

Someone shot a road construction worker with what appeared to be a BB gun, according to a Denton County sheriff’s report.

The man told deputies that he was working in the 2700 block of FM407 near Bartonville about 2:10 p.m. Thursday. He heard a report from some sort of weapon, and then he felt a burning on his left shoulder, he said.

He saw a white Nissan speeding away, and he and a supervisor attempted to follow the car but lost it in traffic.

The worker had a hole in his reflective vest and shirt and was bleeding from a small hole in his shoulder, according to the sheriff’s report. He elected to keep working instead of seeking medical attention.

Other reports

1500 block of Meadows Street — An apartment complex manager reported early Friday that he just discovered that a former resident caused $4,000 worth of damage to his apartment by having a large party in January.

The manager said he recently evicted the tenant and does not know his whereabouts. But on Jan. 19, the tenant had a large party that generated a noise complaint to Denton police, according to the report. An officer reported that there were as many as 80 people in the apartment when he arrived, and he told them all to go home.

Recently, the manager discovered that the weight of all those people actually caused the ceiling of the apartment below to crack, and it will have to be repaired.

100 block of East Oak Street — A woman who is attending a university here from another country reported Thursday that she advertised on the Internet classified site Craigslist for a roommate. A woman who said she was from the United Kingdom contacted her. She said she was moving to Denton to work for a fundraising company and would like to share the apartment. The woman sent a check for $3,800.61.

The victim was supposed to take out $650 for the first month’s rent and $1,000 for the deposit. She was supposed to wire the rest to the woman’s travel agent.

Two more checks for the same amount arrived in the mail and the victim deposited them into her account, though the officer reported there was a language barrier that made it difficult to understand why.

Now the victim’s bank account is $2,000 overdrawn, and she learned all the checks were forgeries, according to the police report.

1800 block of North Ruddell Street — A woman said someone she believes to be the girlfriend of her baby’s father has called her several times threatening to beat her up.
