Blotter: Pain medicine incident leads to arrest of man
08:00 AM CDT on Thursday, June 25, 2009
A 69-year-old Southlake man was in Denton city jail Wednesday awaiting arraignment on a charge of possession of a controlled substance by fraud.
According to a police report, a pharmacy in the 700 block of South Interstate 35E called for help at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, saying that a doctor recently had called in three prescriptions for hydrocodone, a painkiller that is often abused, for his son, who is in Nevada, and one prescription for the same medication for his mother, who lives in Oregon.
The pharmacist reported that the man was waiting for another prescription in the store. The pharmacist said he checked with the Drug Enforcement Administration and found that the doctor’s license to prescribe medicine has been revoked because of his calling in prescriptions for family members.
The man told officers he is an aerospace doctor. He said he did not know his license had been revoked and thought he had another month before that would happen.
He said his son broke his toe and needs the painkillers.
Other reports
1200 block of Cleveland Street — A man reported Tuesday that someone took a small refrigerator, a microwave oven and some clothing from his locked room in a fourplex apartment.
The man said that when he moved into the apartment, the first roommate he met said he didn’t want him there. The roommate said his friend had been staying in the vacant room without paying and he didn’t want him to have to move, according to a police report. The other two roommates threatened and harassed the victim from the time he moved in.
The victim said he tried to move but the manager would not let him out of the lease. He said he continued to pay the rent but lived elsewhere, checking on his belongings in the locked room every couple of weeks. When he checked Wednesday, he discovered the room was empty.
The other roommates deny any knowledge of his belongings, according to the report.
1200 block of McDonald Drive — A 21-year-old woman reported Tuesday that her father sexually molested her three times when she was 12 or 13 years old.
The woman said he threatened to kill her mother if she told anyone, so she never did. But now her 13-year-old sister has said she was sexually molested at least seven years ago by their father, the 21-year-old said.
The family is filing a complaint with Child Protective Services against the father, who left the home seven years ago and returned to Mexico.
600 block of Cardinal Street — Two officers responding to a report of a man screaming as if in pain Tuesday night found a locked door between them and the loud man inside a house.
They kicked open the door and entered, finding the man on a stairway holding what appeared to be a gun to his head.
They finally convinced him to lower the gun, only to discover that it was not real. He was sweating and bleeding, according to a police report, and the officers could not convince him to calm down or figure out why he was bleeding.
He fought them when they tried to touch him and tried to run from them. He punched them both, causing minor injuries, according to the report.
They finally were forced to use a Taser stun device to get him under control, according to the report. They believed he was trying to achieve “suicide by cop,” according to the police report. They charged him with assault on a public servant and were planning to turn him over to mental health workers.
