Blotter: Traveler: Armed man took his wallet at truck stop
07:11 AM CDT on Friday, June 27, 2008
A man fresh off a bus from New Orleans told Denton police he was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday evening.
The man said he got off the bus about 7:20 p.m. at a truck stop in the 6400 block of Interstate 35 and walked over to a pay phone to make a call, according to the police report.
He said he noticed a car parked near the telephone with one man in the front seat and one man in the back.
The man in back got out of the car, produced a large pistol and pointed it at his throat, the victim said. The man still inside the car was holding a shotgun across his lap, the victim said.
The man with the pistol demanded the victim’s wallet and cellphone, he said. Then he returned to the car and they drove away.
He said the robber had a skull tattooed on his upper left arm and had tattoos on his fingers.
When asked to describe his stolen wallet, the man pulled a red wallet from his clothing and said it looked just like that except it was black.
Other reports
600 block of Schmitz Street — A man in jail is behind on his bills, and his creditors are arguing over collateral, according to a police report.
The man had rented a 32-inch flat-screen television and stopped making payments, so an employee tried to repossess it. The phone number on the contract turned out to be the man’s ex-wife’s, who said he was in jail but gave his last known address.
The employee found an apartment at the address, but there was a lock on the door. The man called the apartment manager to be allowed inside and explained he needed to take the television for nonpayment.
But the manager said he had taken the television for nonpayment of rent, and he refused to return it to the rental company, which is the actual owner, according to the police report.
