Blotter: Police: Spicy treat nets man a burglary charge

07:49 AM CDT on Thursday, July 24, 2008

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

A Denton police officer arrested a man on a charge of burglary of a motor vehicle after the man allegedly stole a case of Mac’s Red Hot Pork Skins from a delivery truck.

The driver called 911 about 4:50 a.m. Tuesday from the 2300 block of West University Drive. The driver said he was sitting in his truck while completing paperwork when he noticed an obviously intoxicated man walking up. He told the man to get away from the truck, he said. Instead, the man walked to the back of the truck, opened a door and grabbed a case of the spicy treats.

He carried the case away from the truck, set it down and opened a bag, according to the report. He was eating pork skins when the driver told him that he called the police.

An officer spotted the man nearby and arrested him on the burglary charge as well as a public intoxication charge.

The suspect said the pork skins really weren’t that good, anyway, according to the report.

Other reports

1400 block of Bernard Street — A man reported about 11 p.m. Tuesday that three armed men kicked in the door of his apartment and robbed him.

The victim said he and two friends were watching television when there came a loud banging at the door. Then the three strangers burst in, he said. They demanded all his money. He said he only had $20 and he handed it over.

The men searched the apartment and took a laptop computer when they left. He said he didn’t know the men and had no idea why they targeted him for the home-invasion robbery.

Paisley Street at Audra Lane — An officer noticed a pickup “doing doughnuts” in a field about 2:10 a.m. Tuesday and investigated.

The driver said he had just purchased the truck and was trying it out, according to the report. The officer could smell burnt marijuana in the truck when he was talking to the man, and he asked if he could search the truck.

Given permission, the officer found a bag of marijuana and a blunt marijuana cigar. He also noticed a message on the driver’s cellphone about buying 1 1/2 pounds of something and some pills for $1,450, according to the police report.

1000 block of Prairie Trail, Argyle — An Argyle athlete has been charged with sexual assault after a pool party July 17.

A witness told Argyle officers that her 15-year-old friend became intoxicated at the party and she lost track of her, according to an Argyle police report.

About 5 a.m. the witness found the suspect having sex with her friend, who had apparently passed out from consumption of alcohol, in the back of a pickup, according to the report.

Riley Steven Ledbetter, 18, is free on $35,000 bail on the charge.
