Blotter: Report: Chat leads to choking
08:08 AM CDT on Thursday, August 14, 2008
Denton police arrested a man on a charge of aggravated assault after an incident at a mobile home park Tuesday night.
Officers responded to a report of a man choking a woman in the 5300 block of East McKinney Street about 9 p.m. Paramedics arrived and began treating a woman with a large cut on one hand, and she was eventually taken to a hospital emergency room.
Witnesses said the suspect had locked himself in his mobile home and would not come out. Officers surrounded the home and were able to get him to talk to them. He said they could come inside but he would not come out, according to the police report.
Officers went inside and took the man into custody.
The woman said she and the man have an on-again, off-again relationship. She had walked to the mailboxes to meet a female friend for a chat, she said, and he didn’t like the friend.
She told police he drove up in his pickup and told her to get in the truck. She did, but he was driving recklessly and she was frightened and tried to get out of the truck. He stopped and grabbed her by the hair and pulled her back into the truck, she said.
She tried to get away from him as he tried to drag her into the trailer. She feared he would kill her if he got her inside, she said. She didn’t know she had been cut until she began bleeding heavily.
A witness tried to intervene and the suspect swung the knife at him, according to the police report.
Other reports
800 block of Wolftrap Drive — A woman reported Tuesday night that her cat was missing from her apartment. It was lying on her bed when she left, she said, and gone when she returned. The doors were closed and locked.
The woman suspects that her former boyfriend came in through a window and stole the cat to spite her because he knows how much she loves it, according to the police report.
2400 block of East McKinney Street — A woman said her father-in-law took her dead husband’s truck, even though it had been willed to her.
The woman said her husband left her his estate in the will. He recently was killed in an accident in another county. She and her husband had been separated since May, she said. Her father-in-law took all the contents of his apartment and his truck. The insurance has lapsed on the truck, she said, and she fears she will be held responsible in the case of an accident.
