Blotter: Illegal weapon found in car that ran stop sign
08:23 AM CDT on Thursday, September 18, 2008
A bicycle officer who stopped a car Tuesday found what appeared to be a robbery kit in the back seat.
The officer reported he saw the car run a stop sign. He made a traffic stop, and the driver refused to sign a citation. The officer explained that he would have to take the man to jail if he didn’t sign the ticket, and the driver told him to go ahead.
The officer called for a wrecker to tow the man’s car and began to inventory it prior to having it impounded. He found a black bag that contained a shotgun that had the barrel and the stock sawed off, which made the weapon illegal to possess.
Also in the bag were 92 rounds of ammunition, gloves and a kerchief that could be used as a mask. The officer also found a stocking cap with a pistol magazine wrapped up in it.
The car contained two other license plates and carried a counterfeit inspection sticker, according to the police report. An investigation is continuing.
Other reports
400 block of East McKinney Street — A restaurant owner reported Tuesday that a large amount of cash was missing from his vault. There was no sign of forced entry.
The victim said an employee recently borrowed a large amount of money because, he said, he has a gambling problem and some men in Oklahoma will hurt him if he doesn’t pay his gambling debt.
The owner gave the man the money and hasn’t seen him since, he said. The employee has a key to the door, according to the police report.
1800 block of South Loop 288 — A Corinth woman reported that her wallet was recently stolen at a country club and a woman is using her credit cards and running up big bills on them.
The woman said the cards have also been used in Hickory Creek and Corinth. One business showed her a surveillance video and it was a woman she didn’t know, according to the report.
