Blotter: Police arrest two men on drug-related charges

11:52 PM CST on Friday, November 6, 2009

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

Denton officers arrested two men Thursday night after finding controlled substances in the headliner of their car, according to a police report.

Two officers were responding to complaints about drug sales in an apartment in the 2400 block of Louise Street. At about 9 p.m. they saw a woman and two men leaving the apartment in a car.

One of the officers followed and saw the car make several turns either using no turn signals or turn signals opposite the direction the car turned. He made a traffic stop.

The woman was in the back seat, according to the report. She told the officer the men were taking her to the airport and that her baggage was in the trunk. After being searched and released, the woman walked away rapidly, leaving her baggage, according to the report.

The driver was uncooperative, arguing that he did not commit the traffic violations, so the officers placed him under arrest, according to the report. The officers prepared to impound the car and began searching it.

The second man said the driver picked him up at a relative’s house, but the officer knew he was not telling the truth, since police saw him leave with the others.

The man had numerous bills in denominations of $5, $10 and $20, according to the report, an indication that he had been selling crack cocaine in those denominations.

He claimed to be a concrete construction worker, but he had long fingernails and manicured hands, the officer noted.

Inside the console, an officer reported he found a bottle of red syrup known to be codeine. In the cup holder, police found a cup holding a mixture of Big Red soda and codeine.

A drug-sniffing dog alerted police to various places in the car. The officers pulled back the headliner and found containers with 7.3 grams of marijuana, 2.4 grams of crack and 2.5 grams of Xanax, the report states. The codeine measured 10.7 grams, according to the report.

The men were charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of marijuana.

Other reports

400 block of North Carroll Boulevard — A woman told police Thursday that a man who stalked her at her job in Lewisville has followed her to her job at a Denton bank.

She said that he came in every day at the Lewisville bank and attempted to flirt with her. She didn’t think much of it, she said. She is married and had no interest in him.

But she started the new job Monday and by Thursday he had found her. He walked up to her in the parking lot. She told him to leave her alone but he said he had a new home and she could live with him and be his wife. She called 911. He was gone when police arrived and an investigation is continuing.

2400 block of South Interstate 35E — A woman reported Thursday that an acquaintance she has been allowing to stay with her stole her belongings.

She said the woman’s 12-year-old daughter needs a bone marrow transplant and needed a place to stay closer to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. They knew each other years ago and she agreed to allow the woman to stay.

But she had been there less than a week when her husband showed up Sunday. The victim would not allow him in, and he slept in his truck outside her door. The woman said she later found used syringes in her apartment and told the acquaintance she would have to leave.

They left with textbooks worth $450, a $100 comforter and the woman’s medications, the report states.
