Blotter: Woman reports being attacked while jogging
07:23 AM CST on Thursday, November 19, 2009
A jogger was attacked by a man on Roselawn Drive on Tuesday afternoon, according to a police report.
The 21-year-old woman was jogging east with a friend at about 1:30 p.m. They encountered an area with a strong odor of sewer or gas, she told police, and it made her ill. She stopped jogging to recover. The friend continued jogging.
A city utility truck drove by with a three-man crew and stopped to ask her if she was all right. She told them she was, and the men drove on. Then a white General Motors pickup with the words “Denton Services” in stick-on letters pulled up, the report stated. The driver asked her if she was OK, and she said yes.
The man asked a second time, saying she didn’t look well. He got out of the truck and walked up to her. She was nervous about the man’s actions, and she turned and started to walk away. She heard footsteps behind her and started to run, she said.
The man grabbed her forehead from behind and tried to pull her backward, the report stated. She struggled, and her headband came off in the man’s hand. She spun around and punched the man in the face. She then began running again.
According to the police report, the man tried to grab her by the waist. She struggled with him again and broke free. She ran home and called police.
Both her friend and the utility crew reported seeing the truck. The driver was described as a white man in his 40s wearing a blue cap, blue jeans and sunglasses. He weighed between 180 and 200 pounds and was about 5 feet, 11 inches tall.
Other reports
500 block of Audra Lane — Police received calls early Wednesday from several residents who said a woman was knocking on doors and asking for help.
Arriving officers found the homeless woman at about 3:30 a.m., and she said she had been assaulted. She said she met her former boyfriend at the Salvation Army and they began talking. They decided to go to an empty house they knew about to continue talking and “hanging out.”
The man wanted to have sex, she said, but she said no. She went to sleep, but he woke her and said he was going to burn himself and her up in the house. She realized that he had set some of her belongings on fire. She said she tried to climb out the window they had used to enter the abandoned house but he pulled her back and punched her in the face to keep her from escaping.
The woman said she continued to struggle and managed to get through the window.
The officers realized the house appeared to be on fire and called the fire department.
3600 block of East University Drive — A man reported to police that a relative by marriage is stealing property from his dead father’s home.
The victim said he inherited the house and everything in it but allowed a relative to continue living there. She allowed her son to live in the house.
The man began noticing that things were missing and realized the son was stealing property to finance his crack habit, according to the report.
The man locked a number of valuables in an extra room. But when he checked, the door had been forced open. He reported missing a gun, a scope and ammunition.
He said the son admitted that he traded the weapon to his dealer for crack.
