Blotter: Police issue persistent panhandler a citation

07:52 AM CST on Wednesday, November 25, 2009

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

A customer was walking through a store parking lot when a man asked him for money Monday in the 100 block of South Loop 288.

The customer told the panhandler that begging is against the law in Denton and that he would not give him any cash.

The panhandler followed the customer into the store and asked the proprietor for money. He gave the man $3, according to the report.

“Is that all you’re going to give me?” the panhandler asked, and again approached the customer for money.

The customer pulled out his cellphone to call the police and the panhandler tried to grab the phone. The customer pushed him away, and the panhandler left the store.

Police found the panhandler and issued a criminal trespass citation barring his return to the store. The man demanded that the officer arrest the customer on an assault charge, which the officer declined to do.

Other reports

1400 block of Teasley Lane — A woman told police Monday night that she was asleep when she heard a noise in another room. She called out her boyfriend’s name, thinking he had come home. But a stranger appeared in the doorway of her room looking surprised. He was holding her boyfriend’s guitar, she said. He dropped it and ran out the front door.

1200 block of Cherokee Lane, Sanger area — Someone in Sweden used a Denton County resident’s bank card to buy a train ticket there, according to a sheriff’s report.

600 block of East Hickory Street — Denton police are investigating after a woman reported Monday that her daughter left school with several men she didn’t know and had sex with them.

The woman brought the 15-year-old girl to tell her story. The teen said that last week a friend arranged for two men to pick them up at school about 9:30 a.m.

They drove to a house in the McKinney Street area east of Bell Avenue.

At the house, the girls and several men drank and danced, according to the report. The girl estimated she drank six beers.

She and one of the men, whose name she didn’t know, went into a bedroom. Eight other men came into the bedroom and began touching her and undressing her, she said.

Four of the men had consensual sex with her, the report states.

Later, the men took her and her friend back to school. She did not tell her mother what had happened until her mother found out that she skipped school, according to the police report.
