Police arrest two men in baseball bat, gun scuffle
09:31 AM CST on Tuesday, November 27, 2007
Denton police arrested two men early Saturday after a fracas at an apartment complex involving baseball bats and guns.
Officers responding to reports of men running around the complex waving baseball bats about 3:30 a.m. received another call before they reached the complex in the 1200 block of Cleveland Street. They were notified that callers were saying the men had shotguns.
A victim who said the men were driving around the parking lot in a car with their headlights turned off flagged down the officers.
Officers found the car and found bats and a BB gun that resembled a shotgun inside, according to the police report. They also found shotgun shells and a box for a shotgun, but they did not find the shotgun.
Witnesses said there was a party at an apartment and several people were told to leave because they were causing a disturbance. Some of those people returned several times. They allegedly chased some of the victims with bats, then left, saying they would “get some heat,” according to the police report. When they returned, they pointed guns at the victims from the car, the reports said.
Other reports
100 block of West University Drive — A man walked into a drugstore about noon Saturday, jumped over the pharmacy counter and grabbed two bottles of hydrocodone, according to a police report.
The pharmacist reported that she swatted at the man’s hands and knocked the bottles of the painkiller to the floor. The intruder then grabbed a third bottle and jumped back over the counter. He ran from the store with the bottle, which contained 500 tablets.
Police searched the area but could not locate the suspect.
2700 block of Geesling Road — Employees on the lookout after a manufacturing plant was burglarized once over the Thanksgiving holidays called police when they saw a second apparent burglary, resulting in the arrests of two men.
Employees first noticed between 500 and 1,000 pounds of copper wire missing in the early morning hours Sunday. Someone came in via a back way and took the wire from a roll.
Late Sunday night, an employee, who was watching carefully because he suspected the thieves might return, saw four men standing near the wire. He called police.
The men ran when police cars arrived, but officers caught two of them. They had cut a hole in a fence and used their truck to force open a gate, according to the police report.
10,000 block of Cove Meadow, Oak Point area — A woman returned Sunday from a two-week holiday and discovered someone had apparently spent time in her mobile home before leaving with a television, a computer and a generator.
The woman unlocked the front door and saw a mess in the living room, according to a Denton County sheriff’s report. She did not enter, but called for help.
Arriving deputies determined no one was in the house. But the woman pointed out two shot glasses and an empty bottle of scotch on a counter that she said did not belong to her. There were empty food bags, as well.
Someone had used a marker to write obscenities on her walls and damaged her carpet with spray paint.
