Blotter: Two arrested after officers pull over vehicle
12:38 AM CST on Sunday, November 29, 2009
A man called police when he noticed the front window of his vehicle had been smashed in and saw two strangers riffling through his car’s belongings early Saturday morning, according to a police report.
Arriving officers pulled over a car they saw leaving the parking lot, the report stated.
Officers searched the vehicle and found two MP3 players, two car stereos, several types of car cellphone chargers, a GPS unit, three DVDs, a cellphone, CDs and a large flathead screwdriver in the back seat, according to the report.
While the car was being searched, the other officer interviewed the victim and determined the man’s car stereo, an MP3 player, DVDs and CDs were missing from his vehicle, according to the report. Other items were scattered throughout the vehicle.
The victim was able to name the titles of the DVDs in the suspects’ car and described the MP3 player and the car stereo in detail, the report stated. Police returned the victim’s items to him.
Police charged both men with burglary of a vehicle and took them to the city jail. Each suspect’s bail was set at $2,500 and both were still in jail Saturday evening, according to information released from the jail.
After the incident, a woman called police and reported her car also was broken into, the report stated.
The woman was able to describe items police found in the suspects’ vehicle, according to the report.
A full investigation into the items found in the alleged burglars’ car could help solve other car burglary cases that are open, and additional charges could be forthcoming, said Denton police Sgt. Bobby Ray.
