Blotter: After fight, two men run from police

01:03 AM CST on Sunday, November 30, 2008

By Candace Carlisle / Staff Writer

Police arrested two men after a fight erupted at Vitty’s Bar off Teasley Lane Wednesday evening, said Denton police Sgt. Tim Atcheson.

But not before the men attempted to evade arrest.

Police officers searched a quarter-mile radius before they found the men and arrested them, Atcheson said.

The bar fight began as an argument over a woman, who was pushed by a 25-year-old man at the bar, Atcheson said. An older bar patron came to the woman’s defense and was clocked with a fist by the younger male for his chivalry, Atcheson said.

The 25-year-old man and another male suspect ran out of the bar when they saw the police, Atcheson said.

One of the men was found hiding in the patio closet of someone’s apartment, and the other was found returning to his residence, Atcheson said.

The men were taken to jail for suspected assault and evading arrest, he said.

Other reports

2400 West Hickory Street — A 27-year-old man called police, telling them he was robbed when he gave $30 to another man for a prostitute and didn’t get one, Atcheson said.

When police officers started questioning the man about the specifics of the illegal transaction that happened Wednesday night, he stopped cooperating with police, and no charges were filed, Atcheson said.

1500 block of South Loop 288 — During the after-Thanksgiving sale pandemonium on Friday afternoon, an alleged shoplifter tried to steal two computer games at Wal-Mart, said Atcheson.

The games were worth about $50 apiece.

3000 block of West University Drive — A vehicle was reported stolen early Saturday morning outside a convenience store, according to a police report.

The owner of the vehicle parked at a gas station and left the black 2005 Nissan truck unlocked with a spare key inside.

Within an hour, the vehicle was gone, according to the report.
