Blotter: Parking lot video shows man in burglarized car

07:21 AM CST on Wednesday, December 23, 2009

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

Denton police want to talk to a man shown on surveillance video apparently breaking into a car outside a hospital emergency room.

A woman reported Monday that she was visiting the hospital in the 3500 block of South Interstate 35E with a friend. They left the hospital at about 7:40 p.m. and drove to a convenience store where she planned to buy gasoline. But she discovered that her wallet, which she had left tucked between the seats of her car while she was inside the hospital, was missing.

The women returned to the hospital parking lot. They found the woman’s wallet, but it was empty. A number of credit, debit and gift cards had been stolen.

When hospital security officers checked parking lot surveillance video, they saw a man inside the woman’s car. The woman realized she had spoken briefly to the man while she was in the hospital lobby.

Hospital personnel said the suspect had been with a woman being treated in the emergency room.

That woman identified the man as her boyfriend. She said he had left briefly and then returned, telling her that he didn’t like hospitals and was leaving. He said he would send his mother to sit with her, according to the police report.

Other reports

1500 block of Fort Worth Drive — Someone broke a window to burglarize a house, the owner reported at about 3 p.m. Monday.

The man said the burglar took a new pair of cowboy boots, two .410-gauge shotguns, a .22-caliber rifle, an air rifle, a chain saw and his spare wallet, which contained $120 and credit cards.

4000 block of Kiowa Trail, Argyle area — A man reported to a Denton County sheriff’s deputy that he found one of his two horses injured Saturday. He said his veterinarian checked the horse and determined that it had been shot in the left thigh. The deputy found a pool of blood on the back side of the pasture near U.S. Highway 377.

The horse was an Arabian that the owner had adopted from the Humane Society of North Texas after it was seized by the sheriff’s office from a Pilot Point ranch, according to the sheriff’s report.
