Blotter: Police seek suspects in two armed robberies
11:15 PM CST on Tuesday, December 29, 2009
Denton police are looking for suspects in two armed robberies that happened Saturday.
In the first case, a man said he was robbed at knifepoint while walking to work on railroad tracks Saturday afternoon near the 400 block of South Bell Avenue.
The man said the suspect approached him asking for a cigarette, then pulled a 5-inch steak knife from his sweatshirt pocket and said, “Make this easy,” according to a police report released Tuesday.
The man handed over his wallet — containing $120 in cash, a gift card and a photo ID — and the suspect took it and fled east toward Cook Street. The victim ran to work and called 911.
He described the suspect as a skinny white man, possibly homeless, standing about 5-foot-7 or 5-foot-8, with bad teeth and stubble. The suspect was believed to be wearing a brown hunter-style hat with ear flaps and a zip-up, red and white hooded sweatshirt with a Washington Redskins logo.
Officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspect, according to the police report.
In the second case, a woman reported being robbed at gunpoint late Saturday evening inside her home in the 3500 block of Pheasant Hollow. The woman said a man appeared inside her living room wielding a black semiautomatic handgun and demanded money, according to a police report released Tuesday.
She threw her wallet at the man, ran away through the garage and called 911 from a neighbor’s house, according to the report. Officers searched the woman’s home and did not find the man.
When the woman returned, she noticed that her purse and several other items were missing.
She described the man as Hispanic, standing 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, with dark hair and dark eyes and a slim build. He was reportedly wearing a red and black hooded sweatshirt, a red bandanna and dark pants.
