Animal shelter on agenda for meeting
The Denton City Council will meet Monday to discuss the Keep Denton Beautiful program and a master plan for a proposed new animal shelter. The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the council work session room at City Hall, 215 E. McKinney St.
Forum open Monday to discuss core streets
The Denton Traffic Safety Commission will hear public comments Monday on a plan to make parts of West Oak and Hickory streets one-way with restricted parking.
The plan would make Oak and Hickory streets one-way from Jagoe/Avenue C to Bonnie Brae Street. It would also ban parking on the north side of Oak and south side of Hickory from Jagoe/Avenue C to Bonnie Brae.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 215 E. McKinney St.
United Way lengthens fundraising campaign
United Way of Denton County is extending its 2008 fundraising campaign to give businesses and individuals another opportunity to help their neighbors in need. Several local companies have started fundraising campaigns later than normal to help meet the needs of Denton County residents.
The local organization has 25 partner agencies, including the American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County and Denton Christian Preschool.
To participate in the United Way campaign through corporate donations, employee campaigns, special events or individual donations, call 940-566-5851, ext. 102.
Gallery to host art, Christmas music event
Gallery Night is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oxide Gallery within Linwood-Alford Florist, 501 W. Hickory St. in Denton.

City Council cancels usual Monday meeting
The City Council canceled its regular meeting for Monday. The council will next meet at its regularly scheduled time,
7 p.m., Dec. 15 at the new City Hall, 502 Elm St.
Lewisville
DCTA offers free ride to patrons who bring toys
The Denton County Transportation Authority is conducting a Christmas toy drive on its Connect routes in Denton, Lewisville and Highland Village. Passengers can ride free by donating a new, unwrapped toy to benefit Christian Community Action in Lewisville and Friends of the Family in Denton. Wrapped boxes will be on every DCTA Connect bus to hold donations.
DCTA will be collecting toys in lieu of a fare this Monday through Friday.
