About 1,100 students completed their high school careers with the district.

To celebrate that accomplishment, three graduation ceremonies were conducted for students of Denton, Guyer and Ryan high schools at the University of North Texas Coliseum on Friday. Ceremonies were conducted Wednesday to recognize 16 graduates from Fred Moore High School, and Monday to honor four Guyer High seniors who qualified for and competed in a state track meet in Austin on Friday.

Twenty valedictorians were named districtwide — 13 at Guyer High, four at Ryan High and three at Denton High. The three schools also named six salutatorians — three from Guyer High, two from Ryan High and one at Denton High.

Fred Moore, the district’s alternative school, does not name valedictorians.

Of the graduating seniors, one valedictorian honoree, Denton High student William Trietsch, was verified as the district’s sole senior who had perfect attendance from kindergarten through his senior year. Trietsch, who transferred to Denton from Aubrey with perfect attendance in his fifth-grade year, continued his unblemished attendance streak throughout his school career.

Combined, the district’s 2009 graduating class received $11.9 million in scholarship offers with Guyer High leading the pack with $4.8 million proposed to its students.

District spokeswoman Sharon Cox calls the amount in scholarships offered to seniors “phenomenal” and a testament to the success of the students academically, artistically and athletically.

“We’re just thrilled to see a class this size be so successful and be the recipients of such a large amount of scholarship offers,” she said. “For the students to receive over $11 million [in offers] shows how well our counselors, coaches, sponsors — as well as their parents — are helping them to get into college and succeed in whatever they decide to do.”
