Police Blotter: Transient allegedly assaulted volunteer

12:23 AM CST on Friday, December 21, 2007

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

A transient took sexual advantage of a mildly mentally retarded volunteer at a soup kitchen Wednesday, according to a police report.

The victim’s sister reported that she noticed bruises on the woman’s neck and asked what happened. The victim told her that an acquaintance had sex with her earlier in the day, even though she told him not to.

The victim met the man at the soup kitchen where she volunteers and he asked her to walk to the library. They visited the library for a few minutes, and then he asked her to take a walk in Civic Center Park, she said.

Once in the park, the suspect led her to a bridge. Underneath the bridge, they lay down on a mattress, she said. The man removed her clothing and had sex with her, she said. She told him she didn’t want to, but he continued.

Police are looking for the transient.

Other reports

2400 block of Louise Street — An officer on patrol noticed a man acting suspiciously at an apartment complex Wednesday night and drove in his direction. The man was wearing a heavy coat with the hood pulled over his head, even though the temperature was mild, according to the police report.

When the man saw the officer, he put something into his pocket and ran through a breezeway to the front of the complex, according to the report. The officer drove around to the front and found the man.

Once close, the officer recognized the man from several previous encounters. He knew the man was a suspect in some tire slashings. He found in the man’s coat pocket a screwdriver that had been sharpened to a fine point to make a homemade dagger. The suspect said he used the dagger for self-protection and to impress his girlfriend by cutting tires, according to the police report.

The man appeared to be heavily intoxicated, and he was arrested on charges of public intoxication and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

800 block of Prairie Trail, Argyle area — A woman reported to Denton County sheriff’s deputies that someone sneaked into her barn and cut the tail from a show horse sometime Sunday night or early Monday. The intruder apparently left with the tail.

The woman said it would cost $300 for a fake tail so she can continue to show the horse.
