Blotter: Reward offered for information
08:35 AM CDT on Thursday, June 11, 2009
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Texas is offering a $10,000 reward for information on the mutilation of a Cavalier King Charles spaniel.
On June 2, the dog, named Bonny, disappeared from Brian and Suzanne Hunter’s home in Cross Roads. One of the owners found the dog’s mutilated body in a field across the street, the animal welfare organization said.
The reward is from two different parties who donated $5,000 each, said Jakline Kaden, a spokeswoman for SPCA of Texas.
“We are not conducting the investigation, we are only facilitating the reward,” she said. “I think people come forward to offer rewards because their hearts are sympathizing with the family who has gone through something.”
Kaden speculated that the offer of money will motivate people to step forward with information.
The couple said they were flabbergasted by the reward.
A couple who heard about the story on the news recently gave the couple a King Charles spaniel named Callie.
Officials in the Denton County Sherriff’s Office said there was no new information in the investigation.
Anyone with information about the dog’s death should contact the sheriff’s office at 940-391-7329.
Other reports
An argument at a Whataburger drive-through touched off a flurry of fisticuffs Tuesday night. Police were given two different stories by the parties involved in the incident.
Police were called to the 900 block of West Collins Street to the scene of a reported assault, according to police records.
The first man claimed to have been attacked by two men who followed him home from the drive-through. He explained to officers that he had a heated exchange with the occupants of a sport utility vehicle in front of his vehicle. The man said he went home and the other vehicle followed.
Outside his home, he told police he confronted the other people and then they got out of their SUV and proceeded to kick and punch him. The man’s brother went inside to get their dog and a knife to protect himself. The two attackers left when the brother came back outside, according to the police report.
When the responding officer left the Collins Street location, he received a call about the two other men involved in the fight being treated for stab wounds at Denton Regional Medical Center.
Those two men reported the same drive-through argument but said they were followed by the men in the second vehicle, claiming they attempted to lose them on another street before stopping on Collins Street.
The second vehicle pulled up beside theirs, and two people got out and began to attack, according to the police report.
A few minutes later, the men in the first vehicle were able to get away. The driver noticed he was bleeding from his hand and forearm and decided to go to the hospital.
