Police seek robber who said he had explosives

Bomb squad on scene

04:48 PM CDT on Thursday, April 3, 2008

By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer

Denton bomb squad members, firefighters and police are at Inwood Bank in the 2200 block of San Jacinto Boulevard handling a bank robbery and a black bag the robber left behind.

Denton Police spokesman Jim Bryan said police officers evacuated the building, which has offices for a large law firm and other professionals as well as the bank.

Bomb squad members are using a robot to fetch the black bag and put it in a specialized piece of equipment for safe disposal, he said.

A man walked into the bank about 2:50 p.m. carrying the bag, which he told bank employees held explosives, Bryan said. He left in a burgundy pickup. Bryan said he was not sure whether the man also left with any of the bank’s money.

The suspect was described as a black male between 50 and 60 years old with a bald head. He wore a black hat, glasses, a gray shirt and dark pants.

Bryan said a partial license plate number on the truck is 58Z - - 4.
