Blotter: Baby temporarily left in carrier in roadway
11:22 PM CST on Monday, December 29, 2008
A woman was shocked to find a baby in what she had assumed was an empty infant carrier seat in the middle of a busy intersection Sunday evening, and police are looking for information about the child’s mother.
The woman told police she was driving northbound in the 1400 block of Audra Lane and stopped at a three-way intersection about 7:30 p.m. A carrier seat was blocking the intersection, she reported, and she got out of her car to move it.
She found a male child about 3 to 4 months old strapped into the seat. The baby wasn’t crying, she said, and did not appear to be injured. The baby boy was black and was wearing a dark blue T-shirt and blue jeans, she said.
Just then a Mazda four-door sedan drove up. A woman emerged, yelling and cursing at the first woman and telling her to hand over her baby. The startled woman gave up the infant and the other woman sped away.
She described that woman as black, about 5-feet-4 or 5-feet-5 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds. The woman had shoulder-length curly hair and was wearing black pajama bottoms and a white T-shirt with black lettering, according to the report.
Police Lt. Lee Creamer said detectives would like to talk to that woman about why the baby was left in the intersection. Anyone with information should call Detective Steve Buchanan at 940-349-7963.
Other reports
4500 block of Interstate 35E — A woman reported Saturday that another woman whose voice she doesn’t recognize has been threatening and harassing her since Wednesday.
The victim said the woman has called her at work nearly 20 times. She called her on her cellphone 144 times, according to the report.
The strange woman threatens to burn down her workplace and says she will “lose her job and die.”
The victim has no idea why the other woman is angry at her or if she has the wrong number.
The reporting officer noted that the woman called 10 times while he was taking the report. He answered, identified himself as the police and told the woman to stop calling several times, he said. The woman did not answer and hung up but called back immediately.
1600 block of East McKinney Street — A witness alerted police about 11:10 p.m. Sunday that someone was breaking into a car wash.
Arriving officers noted that the window on the front door was broken. They called out for the intruder to come out. A man exited the car wash by the broken window and was arrested on a burglary charge.
100 block of Falcon Court, Argyle area — A man told Denton County sheriff’s deputies that he returned home about 6:30 p.m. Friday and found that someone had come into his house and vandalized his motorcycle.
He found the seat in tatters and a steak knife stuck into the seat, he said. He believes his estranged wife may have been the culprit.
