Dovie E. Watkins Hodnett Serren Blake

Dovie E. Watkins Hodnett Serren Blake, 85, left this life on Thursday, May 29, 2008, from her home in Aubrey, TX, to be with her Lord Jesus Christ, whom she faithfully served.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who leaves behind a host of family and friends whose lives were deeply impacted by her loving nature and Christian values.

Dovie was active in her church and with RSVP. She spent many years raising her family. She retired after a long career in food services.

After retirement she enjoyed traveling with family and friends and spent many of her days with her friends at Heritage Oaks.

Dovie was born on July 26, 1922, in Pheba, MS, to James Andrew and Virginia Catherine (Sherman) Watkins. She was a longtime member of Cooper Creek Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 2, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Cooper Creek Baptist Church in Denton. The Rev. Bobby Bryan and the Rev. Rick Montgomery will officiate. Burial will follow at Old Alton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 1, 2008, from 4-6 p.m. at Slay Memorial Funeral Center.

She is survived by four sons, John Hodnett of Arlington, George Hodnett and wife Niki of Casper, WY, Billy Serren of Denton and Lynn Blake and wife Cathy of Farmersville; four daughters, Deloris Kizer and husband John of Denton, Ann Barbay of St. Louis, MO, Patty Anderson and husband Jim of Aubrey and Jan Deleon and husband Johnny of La Junta, CO. She is also survived by sister-in-law Mildred Watkins of Denton, twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by husband Harold L. Hodnett in 1947, husband J.L. Curtis Serren Sr. in 1973, husband Earl Blake in 1988 and son J.L. Curtis Serren Jr.

Services are under the direction of Slay Memorial Funeral Center, Aubrey, TX.

Roger Glenn McLeroy

Roger Glenn McLeroy, 67, of Sanger passed away on Friday, May 30, 2008. He was born on September 8, 1940 to A. C. and Opal Wammack in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a 1959 graduate of Irving High School and attended Sam Houston State University and UT at Arlington. On October 7, 1961, he married Donna “Debbie” Butler in Irving, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sanger, Lewisville Saddle Club, American Association of Sheriff Posses & Riding Club and the National Association of Sheriff Posses & Riding Club. He was retired from Yellow Freight and was currently as a bus driver for the Denton ISD.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 1, 2008, at the First Baptist Church, 708 South Fifth Street, Sanger, Texas. Visitation will be held from 7 - 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the First Baptist Church. Serving as pallbearers will be Bernard Alons, Daryl Key, Jerry Saunders, Gene Montgomery, Lifus Clark, and Larry Edwards. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Steve Estep, David Adkisson, Marshall McCoulsky, Garnett Jones, Joe Higgs, and Tim Cox. Dr. Ben Smith will officiate during the services.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie of Sanger; two daughters, Debra Lynn Cox and husband, Chris of Sanger and Lisa Beth Herrington and husband, U. B. of Decatur; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clint McLeroy and wife, Sandra of Lewisville and Jimmy McLeroy and wife, Anita of Graham; seven grandchildren, Marcus Cox and wife, Randi, Shea Cox, Jordan Lane, Kristen Herrington, Brett Herrington and Claire Harrington; and two great-grandchildren, Shelby Cox and Seth Randall Cox.
