Sherry Lynn Baker Carr

Sherry Carr

Sherry Lynn Baker Carr, 70, of Justin, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born on June 6, 1939 in Fort Worth to Arthur Baker and Nola Ruth Wilkerson. She attended Northwest High School and was a member of the Justin First Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held Monday, February 1, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Justin Cemetery.

Sherry is survived by her mother, Nola Goad of Justin. She is preceded in death by her father, Arthur Baker, and her brother, David Baker.

Frank Walter Cawthon

Frank Walter Cawthon, 82, of Denton, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Presbyterian Hospital in Denton.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 2 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.

Charles Joe Lowry

Charles Joe Lowry, 67, of Denton, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010. He was born in Oklahoma City on March 20, 1942 to Charles Earl Lowry and Vertie Chesstina Brown. He was a HM3 (E-4) in the U.S. Navy. He married Dawn Cameron Flynn and was a radiology technologist.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 1, 2010 from 10-11 a.m. the service will follow at 11 a.m. in the DeBerry Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Little Elm Cemetery.

Charles is survived by his wife Dawn Cameron Lowry; son, Charles Matthew Lowry; brother, Edward Lawrence Lowry of Murfreesboro, TN; step daughters, Sheri Rogers of Wurtsboro, NY, and Luanne Monti of Shady Shores, TX; and step sons, Michael Monti of Bakersfield, CA, and Tony Monti of Middletown, NY. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lowry and Verti Lowry Russell; brothers, James Thomas Lowry and Arthur Ray Lowry; and stepfather, Jack Orlie Russell.

Wade Orsburn

Wade Orsburn

Wade Orsburn, 77, a native and lifelong resident of Gainesville, went peacefully to his heavenly home on January 27, 2010, of complications from Parkinson’s Disease. He was born to Alvin and Jesse Whitt Orsburn on December 14, 1932. He was married on June 17, 1955, to Ramona Steen Orsburn, who survives him. He was the proud father of Derrin "Keith" Orsburn of Denton and devoted grandfather, "Poppie," of Kade James Orsburn. They survive him, along with Keith’s wife Jamie and her daughters whom Wade also loved and cherished: Rachel and husband Mark Cannon of Henrietta; and Maegan and Carlyn Anderson of Denton. Wade was one of six siblings who were born and reared on a small farm in eastern Cooke County, attending Oak Valley School. Wade graduated from Gainesville High School and Cooke County Junior College. He was regarded as the patriarch of his generation of the pioneer Cooke County family. His family greatly loved and respected him for his honesty, loyalty, strong sense of fairness and humor. All of his brothers and sisters survive him: Norma Mozingo of Gainesville; Hattie Pawless and husband Mugg of Gainesville; Don Orsburn and wife Reece of Gainesville; Emma Moore of Callisburg; and Charles Orsburn and wife Ellen of Oak Point; along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, mother and one child, Dwight David Orsburn.

An independent oil operator and manager of oil properties for R. Brannon & Sons, after gaining experience at Texaco, Inc. and Felderhoff Brothers Drilling Co., Wade was one of the “old guard” whose handshake was as good as an ironclad, written contract. Wade was actively involved in many facets of the community. In his early years, he was a member of the Red Gordon Band, which raised money for polio research. He officiated for the National Association of Sports Officials, through which he met his beloved Mona, who was playing basketball at Collinsville High School. He was a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville, where he served as a deacon and chairman of the building committee that constructed the Youth Activity Center. He was a member of the Lions Club and the board of directors of Camp Sweeney, the Gainesville Boys’ Club, the Gainesville Housing Authority, and the Cooke County Draft Board.

The family will be present for visitation at Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home on January 29, 2010 7 - 8 p.m. A celebration of his life will be Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Gainesville, to be conducted by the Rev. Hubert Wright. There will be an additional visitation in the activities building of the First Baptist Church between 1 - 2 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Bill Cox, Garry Felderhoff, James Hermann, Tommy James, Johnny Leftwich, Lewis Moore, Randy Orsburn, and Bud Pawless. The Deacon Body of the First Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers. Greeters are grandson-in-law Mark Cannon, and nephews Brent Mozingo, Trent Mozingo and Vince Pawless. Interment will take place at the Collinsville Cemetery following the celebration.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pecan Tree Manor for their excellent care of Wade during the last stages of his illness. Jerry M. Sutherland

Jerry M. Sutherland, 65, of Fort Worth, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Kindred Hospital in Fort Worth. He was born to Virgil Sutherland and Carrie Mae Powell Sutherland on July 14, 1944 in Denton. He was a truck driver for Andy Carlegcis and attended Argyle, Center Point and Denton schools.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the Grove Home, 4740 E. Lancaster, Fort Worth, TX 76103.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Karla Duplantis; sisters, Peggy Williams of Hurst, and Margie Boyles of North Richland Hills; brother, Jack Sutherland of North Richland Hills; 3 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Carrie Sutherland; sister, Ruth Meadows; and brother, Edward Sutherland.

Jerry Wayne Thomas

Jerry Thomas

Jerry Wayne Thomas, 50, of Krum, TX went to be with the Lord January 28, 2010. He was born on April 29, 1959, to B.J. Thomas and May Pearl Kellum Thomas in Fort Worth, TX. He was preceded in death by his mother, May Pearl Thomas, and his nephew, Herman Thomas.

Jerry was employed by the state of Texas for the past 28 years. At the time of his death, he was employed by Denton State Supported Living Center as Building Coordinator, and also worked part time for Innovative Outcomes in Denton.

He is survived by his wife, Deana; his father, Reverend B.J. Thomas and wife A.B. Thomas. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Kimani Thomas, Rashaun Campbell, and Randall Thomas; stepchildren, Carlton Carter and wife Heather, and Hillary Whitley and husband Clayton. He was a great Pop’s to 4 grandchildren, Hailee, Savannah, Gauge, and Lane, whom Jerry loved so very much. Other surviving family members include: two brothers, Billy Earl Thomas and Duane Thomas; three sisters, Linda Knight, Carla Thomas, and Nickesha Brown; and many loving extended family members.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 31, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be Monday, February 1, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Christ the Great Shepherd Church in Sanger with Rev. Dewey Lang and Rev. Joe McCutchen officiating. Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Krum, TX.
