James M. Crowder

James M. Crowder, 76, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Denton Regional Hospital. Visitation for Mr. Crowder will be held Monday, July 6, 2009, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at People’s Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Internment will immediately follow funeral services in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Crowder is survived by his loving wife, Eunice Crowder; three siblings; 16 children; numerous grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

 

 

Julie Anna Farmer

Julie Anna Farmer, 42, of Denton passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 31, 1966, in Denton to Bill and Maggie Lindsey. She loved her family and was a very dedicated mother to her two sons. Julie’s compassion overflowed into her work where she was employed in the Denton area in the funeral industry, most recently at the Denton Funeral Home until her illness left her unable to work.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2009, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Denton Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Monday, July 6, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Jackson Cemetery in Krum. Stephen Howard will officiate.

Julie is survived by her father Bill Lindsey of Krum; her husband Steve McDonald of Denton; two sons, William (Kerby) Kerr Lindsey and wife Holly of Krum, and Collin (Woody) Laroe Farmer and his father, Hal Farmer, both of Denton; two sisters, Kebby Mitchell and husband Kent of Houston, and Jamie Lee Free of Corinth; step-children, Taylor Farmer of Midlothian and Michael McDonald of Krum; niece, April Saxon and husband Brian of Carrollton; and nephew, Dustin Clearman of Lewisville.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret (Austin) Lindsey.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Julie Farmer.

Services are under the direction of Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

 

 

Dorothy D. Hix

FORT WORTH — Dorothy D. Hix, 84, passed away Friday, July 3, 2009, at her home.

Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Ozark, Ala.

Dorothy was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Ponder to Chester and Hattie Gotcher. She married William Joseph “Joe” Hix May 12, 1942, in Ponder. Her husband was in the Army and they spent much of their life living in many states and countries around the world. She was a member of Arlington Heights United Methodist Church, Fort Worth, and a past longtime member of United Methodist Church, Ozark, Ala.

Dorothy was known not only for her kindness, patience, and generous ways, but for her beautiful needlework, her wonderful cooking, her taffy making, and pulling it with her hands to the right consistency — just like her mother did. Dorothy was a Silver Life Master bridge player.

She loved her family and looked forward to all the family gatherings. Those that have gone on before her will have a joyous reunion when she arrives at her heavenly home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Joseph Hix; son, Tony Hix; sisters, Mable Margie Brittian and Norma Jean Gotcher; and brothers, Eulon and Kenneth Gotcher.

Survivors: Daughter, Dorothy Joe Fairman of Seattle,Wash.; son, Steven Hix of Fort Worth; daughter-in-law, Vickie Welch of Birmingham, Ala.; loving grandchildren, Joy Aldrich and husband Toby Aldrich of Seattle, Wash., John Ellison and wife Sandra of Seattle, Wash., Chris Hix of Austin, David Hix and wife Jennifer Hix of Gardendale, Ala.; and great-granddaughters, Grace and Annastasia Ellison; sisters, Mary Elkins and husband Bob, and Glenda Hatridge and husband Kenneth; brothers, Chester Gotcher and wife Jeannie, and Danny Gotcher.

 

 

Gary Lynn Taylor

Gary Lynn Taylor, 63, of Argyle, passed away July 4, 2009, at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer. Gary was born Nov. 8, 1945, to Clarence and Vera Taylor in Dallas. He worked for Halliburton and retired with 27 years of service. Gary is survived by his wife, Linda Taylor of Argyle; daughter, Marie Kirkland and Bryan Ely of Argyle; sons, Chris Taylor and his wife Lynda of Argyle, and Gary Taylor and his wife Mindi of Carrollton; sisters, Georgia Gibson and her husband Roland of Corinth, and Barbara James of Carrollton; brother, Aubrey Taylor and his wife Linda Sue of Rockston; grandchildren, Brandon Taylor, Jacob Kirkland, Dalton Taylor, Austin Kirkland, Jesse Walker Taylor, Billy Jack Taylor and Garret Taylor. Visitation will be Monday, July 6, 2009, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be at 12 p.m. on Tuesday in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Old Hall Cemetery.

Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, Lewisville is in charge of the arrangements.

 

 

John R. Vest

John R. Vest, 66, of Denton, formerly long-time resident of Webb City, Missouri, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Wise Regional Health Care Center in Decatur. He was born June 23, 1943, in Herculaneum, MO, to John Russell and Lois Ann (Johnston) Vest. He was a Machinist, a member of the Assembly of God Church, and graduated school in Webb City, MO.

Graveside funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at the Wild Rose Cemetery in Webb City, MO. The family will be at the Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust St., Denton, TX, for visitation on Monday, July 6, 2009.

Mr. Vest is survived by a son Curtis Vest of Webb City, MO; daughter, Angie Sell of Kansas City, MO; sisters, Caroline Vaughn of Aubrey, TX, Patricia Vest of Denton, TX, and Priscilla Wederstrandt of Argyle, TX; brothers, Floyd R. Vest of Denton, TX, James Vest of Las Vegas, NV, and Joe Vest of Lufkin, TX; and grandchildren, Megan Vest, T.J. Sell and Jackson Sell.
