Steven Henry

MANSFIELD - Steven Henry, 55, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, February 11, 2008, at a local hospital.

Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 15, 2008 at Retta Baptist Church, 13201 Rendon Road, Burleson. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Skyvue Funeral Home.

Steven retired after 29 years’ service with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office. He was ordained a deacon in June at his church.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Henry; sons, Walter and William Henry; daughter, Sara Bell; parents, Ray and Barbara Henry; brother, Bobby Henry; and sister, Becky Chapa.

Sam Franklin Strayhorn, Sr

Sam Franklin Strayhorn, Sr., of Sanger, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 11, 2008 in Denton, Texas.

Sam was born on January 11, 1926 in Beebe, Arkansas to Delton Burton and Georgia Estelle (Gerhardt) Strayhorn.  He married Rosalee Jones on May 16, 1946 in Little Rock, Arkansas.  He served his country in the United States Navy.  Mr. Strayhorn is retired from Jostens where he worked in the Tool and Dye Department. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Krum, Texas.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the Jackson Cemetery in Krum, Texas.  Visitation will be held from 5:30 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Coker Funeral Home, 403 Pecan Street, Sanger, Texas.

Survivors include his wife of Sanger; two daughters, Becky Williams and husband, Roger of Lubbock and Annette Johnson and husband, Ronnie of Krum; two sons, Sam F. Strayhorn, Jr. of Kemp, Texas and Duane Strayhorn and wife, Linda of Pilot Point; one sister, Virginia Burt of Searcy, Arkansas; and twelve grandchildren.  His parents; two brothers; and one sister preceded him in death.

Phillip Ray Edgington

Phillip Ray Edgington, 54, of Sanger, passed away Friday, February 8, 2008 in Grand Meadow MN.  He was born March 21, 1953 in Springfield MO to John Dodson Edgington and Betty Lou Edgington.  He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and Central Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.  He served in the U.S. Army for 10 years and 12 years in the Army Reserve.  He retired as a Major. 

He was hired by American Airlines in 1986 and was a Captain on the MD Super 80 at the time of his death.  Phil had accumulated over 21,000 flying hours in many different types of aircraft and held the highest pilot license that of Airline Transport Pilot, issued by the Federal Aviation Administration, in fixed wing, rotor aircraft and floatplanes.  He was also a licensed airplane mechanic and inspector and was type rated in the MD-11, B727, MD 80 and F100 and also held a Flight Engineer rating.

He is survived by his wife, Georgina Coda Edgington of Sanger; son, Jeffrey Edgington and wife, Crystal of Abilene; mother, Betty Lou Larsh of Columbia MO; brothers, Jimmy L. Edgington of OH and Bobby George Edgington and wife, Sandra of Columbia MO.  He is preceded in death by his father; and brother, Tommy John Edgington.

Visitation will be Friday, February 15, 2008 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors.  Funeral service will be Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Bolivar Baptist Church in Bolivar, west of Sanger on FM 455.

Truman Hawk

Truman Hawk was born March 17, 1922, to John and Summie Hawk of the Hawk Community in Denton County, Texas.  Mr. Hawk married Lois Jonell Duggan on March 10, 1945.  He passed away on Monday, February 11, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

Truman is survived by his wife, Lois Jonell Hawk of Denton; two sons, James and wife, Jayn Hawk of Rockwall and Danny and wife, Karen Hawk of Richardson.  He dearly loved and was loved by four grandchildren, Janiece McClendon and husband, Dustin of Plano, Jordan and Jessica of Rockwall and Jacob of Richardson.  He is also survived by two sisters, Fayma Boysen and husband, Don of Dallas and Inez Howard of Corinth; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hawk and Vonda Hawk, both of Denton and Peggy Shahan and husband, John of Farmers Branch.  Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Mr. Hawk.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Elliot and his wife, Willie Dee Hawk, Walter Ray Hawk and Cecil Hawk, sister, Edith and her husband, Ray Francis and by his parents, John and Summie Hawk.

Mr. Hawk was a farmer and rancher most of his life.  For a time, he owned and operated Hawk's Egg Farm at Argyle.  He later moved to Sanger where he operated Hawk's Body Shop, and then to Denton where he was a homebuilder until his retirement.

Truman was a talented, self-taught musician.  For several years he has been part of the Denton Rhythm Riders band.  He thoroughly enjoyed sharing his time and talent entertaining at benefits and nursing homes throughout the Denton community.  He was a member of Denton Church of Christ.

The family would like to thank Dr. Terence Moore and staff for many years of concerned and compassionate care.

Linda L. Meyers Robinson

Linda L. Meyers Robinson, of Pilot Point, passed away Friday, February 8, 2008 at Parkland Hospital in Dallas following a sudden illness.  She was 63 years old. 

Linda was born on May 31, 1944 in Celina, TX to Alvie Earl and Adelle Ceat Meyers.  She was a life long resident of Pilot Point and attended Pilot Point public schools.  She married Clint H. Robinson on May 22, 1988 in Sherman, TX.

She was involved in many civic activities through the years and was a proud supporter of the community.  Most recently, she served as a counsel woman on the Pilot Point City Council for two terms from 2002 through 2006.  She was an active member of the Vaughn Walling Post American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary and enjoyed participating in their many activities and fundraisers.  Linda was known for her compassion towards others and giving spirit.  Her warm smile and laughter will be greatly missed.

A memorial celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Midway Baptist Church with Rev. Luther Slay officiating.  Services are under the direction of Slay Memorial Funeral Center in Aubrey, TX.  A gathering for remembrance will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the home of Jean Howard, 100 S. Prairie St. in Pilot Point from 5 – 8 p.m. 

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clint on June 15, 2003; one brother, William T. Meyers in 2006; and one sister, Sandra Gail Meyers in infancy.

Left behind to cherish her memory is her loving family, her son, Jason Pierce and wife, Shelley of Aubrey; stepsons, Trayl Hopkins and wife, Angela of Denton and Gary Robinson and wife, Lori of Pilot Point; stepdaughter, Patricia Siverling of Denton; seven beloved grandchildren, Michael, Riley, Ryann, Hali, Kyle, Kadie and Martha; and three precious great-grandchildren, Rowdy, Miranda and Jordan.  She is also survived by one sister, Betty Kerbow of Pottsboro; and three brothers, Donald Meyers of Millsap, Charles Meyers of Denton and Karl Meyers of Pittsburg.  In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by a large extended family and an untold lifetime of friends and neighbors whose lives she touched and loved her dearly.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Linda Robinson Memorial Fund at Northstar Bank in Pilot Point.

Dorothy Ridge Tatum

Mrs. Dorothy Ridge Tatum, age 69, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2008 in Denton, Texas.

She is survived by one son, Greg (Rhonda) Ridge of Denton, Texas; and daughter Regina (Michael) Williams of Lancaster, Texas; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 13, 2008 from 7 - 8 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Thursday, February 14, 2008 at St. Emmanuel Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Denton, Texas.

Neta Bell Dethloff

Providence Village – Neta Bell Dethloff, 93, of Providence Village, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Pilot Point Care Center. She was born on March 23, 1914 in Lela Lake, TX to Alfred Adam and Alta Lee Rhea Pierce. She married Drewie Dethloff on December 22, 1945 in Decatur; he preceded her in death on July 30, 1971. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church. She was also a charter member of the Bridgeport Riding Club and a member Home Demonstration club.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Slay Memorial Funeral Center, Rev. John Theisen will officiate. Burial will follow at West Side Cemetery in Bridgeport. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She is survived by one daughter, Lynda Cole of Providence Village; one grandson, Kevin Coker of Providence Village; and one granddaughter, Jaye and husband, Chip Schmitz of Krugerville. She is also survived by one great-grandson, Trevor Coker of Providence Village; two great-granddaughters, Hannah and Katie Schmitz of Krugerville; one niece, one nephew; and several step-nieces and nephews.

Services are under the direction of Slay Memorial Funeral Center, Aubrey, Texas.

Forrest Emmett Barton

Forrest Emmett Barton, 86, of Denton, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Denton Regional Medical Center. He was born January 12, 1922 near the city of Weatherford in Parker County to Emmett and Anna Boecker Barton. He married Evelyn Harris in Gainesville on October 1, 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was discharged in October 1945. He returned to Denton where he resided until his death.

He is survived by wife, Evelyn Barton of Denton; sons, Forrest Lynn Barton and wife, Linda of Krum and Alan Wayne Barton and wife, Patricia of Jewett; sister, Myrtle Wallace of Weatherford; grandchildren, Dwayne Barton and wife, LaCynda, Emmitt Wayne Barton, Heath Lynn Barton and wife, Allison; great-grandchildren, Brady Lynn Barton, Bryce Barton, LaRay Barton and Callie Barton.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 12, 2008 from 6 - 8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Graveside service will be Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Bolivar Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Barton, Emmitt Barton, Heath Barton, Parker Terrell, Rusty Carney and Bobby Self.

Olive Watt Chambers

Olive Watt Chambers, of Denton, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Denton Good Samaritan Health Center. She was born March 19, 1918 in Weatherford to Edward Rufus and Olive Watt. She attended Weatherford public schools and after graduation from Weatherford Junior College at age 18, she taught at a country school in Pendleton, near Temple for 3 years.

She married Robert W. Chambers in 1941. The couple would have observed their 66th anniversary next June 7th. They came to Denton in 1942 when Robert joined the faculty of Texas State College for Women, now Texas Woman’s University and returned in 1946 after World War II.

Olive graduated from TWU and taught in Denton public schools until her retirement in 1980. Since then she has often received thanks from former students and their parents.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Denton since 1942. She taught in the church school and worked in the church library. A collection of her oil paintings, part of many done during her retirement, was exhibited at the church.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 13, 2008 from 6 - 8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Cole Chapel of First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Sanger Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Chambers of Denton; sons, Robert Chambers, Jr. of Irving and John Edward Chambers of Denton.
