Robert Howard Crowsey
Robert Howard Crowsey, 74, of Whitesboro passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at his residence. He was born Sept. 11, 1935 in Cooke Co. to Robert Clyde and Ollie Edna Day Crowsey. He graduated from Pilot Point High School and Texoma Regional Police Academy. He married Linda Laverne Coffey on July 3, 1964 in Aubrey. He was the Chief of Police for Pilot Point from 1972 – 1979 and Denton County Constable for two terms.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 4, 2009 from 6–8 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Krugerville. Funeral service will be Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2009 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Krugerville with Rev. Sam Redfearn and Rev. John Theisen officiating. Burial will follow at Belew Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Linda Crowsey of Whitesboro; daughter, Susan Huey of Fort Worth; sons, Robert William Crowsey of Whitesboro, Anthony “Tony” Howard Crowsey of Crowley; sister, Shirley Beaty of Aubrey; brother, Jerry Crowsey; 6 grandchildren and uncle, Marshall Day of Muenster. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Wayne Crowsey of Pilot Point.
Jessie Ellis-Bryant
Jessie Ellis-Bryant, 90, of Denton passed away on Dec. 31, 2009. She was born March 12, 1919, in Kaufman to Ballard and Virginia Bryan Godwin. She attended TWU and worked as a secretary for 40 years at the Denton County Welfare Office and at NTSU. Jessie married Charles (Ike) Ellis on June 21, 1940, in Dallas, Texas. After his death in 1996, she married Bill Bryant on Sept. 7, 2001.
Jessie was very active in the community and belonged to many organizations including the TWU Alumnae Association, the Bungalow Class, The Shakespeare Club and Bible Study Fellowship. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Denton. Jessie loved people and was involved with helping others all her life. She enjoyed entertaining in her home and was a wonderful cook. Mostly, she adored being a wife and mother and devoted herself totally to her family.
Jessie is survived by two daughters, Susanna Trevino of Chapel Hill, NC, and Geraldine Ellis of San Antonio; identical twin sister Julia Davis; sisters Glenna Sessums, Jane Talley and Joan Barrett; granddaughters Debbie Simmons of Greenville, SC, and Anne Trevino of Durham, NC, great-granddaughter Sarah Simmons; step-granddaughter Kim Bryant Manzer of Denton; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by parents Ballard and Virginia Godwin; brother, Bryan Godwin and granddaughter, Leslie Trevino.
A memorial service in her honor will be held on Monday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. in the Denton Good Samaritan Village Chapel with a visitation reception to follow.
Helen Marie Elvington
Helen Marie Elvington, 59, died Friday, Jan.1, 2010 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton, Texas. She was born Jan. 17, 1950 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Alvin Robert Kruger and Fannie May Matheson Kruger. She married W.T. "Dub" Elvington in Durant Oklahoma on Aug. 21, 1974. She was a retired beautician.
Visitation will be at the Slay Chapel on Sunday, Jan. 3 from 6-7 p.m. Services will be Monday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m., also at the Slay Chapel.
Survivors are her three daughters, Ann Myers and husband Doug Myers of Sanger, Robbie Kays and husband Jeff Kays of Collinsville, Celena Hampton and Husband Norman of Olney, Texas, Ava Harris and husband Dwayne of Olney; five sons, Bobby Elvington of Pilot Point, Paul Elvington and wife Hollie of Pilot Point, Nay Elvington and wife Jane Roberts of Pilot Point, Danny Elvington and wife Sherrie of The Colony, and Bruce Elvington and wife Chris of Luella, Texas; twenty-three grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; three brothers Alvin Kruger and wife Vickie of Pioneer Valley, Billy Jack Kruger and wife Marie of Gribble Springs, William Douglas Kruger and wife Zelma of Krugerville, two sisters, Sylvia Riordan and husband Bill of Wichita Falls, and Doloris Lawson and husband Randy Dunston of Wichita Falls.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dub Elvington; father, Alving Kruger; mother, Fannie May Kruger; brothers, Bobby Ray West, Earl Wayne West, and Jimmy Dewayne Kruger; and grandson, Steven Harvey.
Services are under the direction of Slay Memorial Funeral Center, Aubrey.
Elisabeth McCullar Jamison
Elisabeth McCullar Jamison, 86, of Denton, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at her home.
Mrs. Jamison was born March 20, 1923 in Denton to Fred Law and Bess (Browder) McCullar. She attended Denton Public Schools and received a B.A. and B.S. degree from Texas State College for Women, now Texas Woman’s University. She taught music and English in the public schools of Plainview and Hadley, Texas and later was an instructor in English at North Texas State College, now the University of North Texas. Later she was employed as the Society Editor for the Denton Record Chronicle. She was married to Alonzo W. Jamison, Jr. of Denton in 1947. While her husband was a member of the Texas House of Representatives, she served one term as president of the Legislative Wives Club in Austin.
During the Kennedy-Johnson presidential campaign in 1960 she served as chair of arrangements for the Dallas-Fort Worth area’s “Kennedy Ladies Tea” one of a series held across the country. This tea was at Cielo Ranch near Denton and was attended by members of the Kennedy and Johnson families. She served one term as a member of the Texas State Democratic Executive Committee.
She was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Denton, where she served as a member of the Vestry and Senior Warden.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 1200 N. Elm St. Denton, with Rev. Donald Johnson officiating. Her ashes will be interred in the columbarium at St. Barnabas. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
Mrs. Jamison is survived by her husband Alonzo W. Jamison, Jr. of Denton; a nephew, Frederick (Rick) Russell of Dallas; a niece, Helen McCullar Brown of Spring, TX; and a brother-in-law, Robert Howard of Edmonds, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mary Howard, and Jessica Russell, two brothers, Frederick McCullar and Frank McCullar, and a niece, Elizabeth Ann Barrett.

Doyce Edward Looper
Doyce Edward Looper, 83, of Aubrey passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009. He was born Nov. 25, 1926 in Aubrey to Jerry Edward Looper and Vera Tennessee Coffey Looper. Doyce graduated from Rockhill School and New Hope School and was self employed as a farmer. He married Georgia Elizabeth Weaver on May 18, 1946 and was a member of Rockhill Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010 from 3-5 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Krugerville with Dan Sparkman officiating. Burial will follow at Belew Cemetery in Aubrey. Pallbearers will be Gary Starr, Roy Lantrip, Butch Lantrip Malone, Dahlon Pruett, Michael Looper, Sam Looper, Cody Cassity, and Clay Hawkins.
Doyce is survived by his wife, Georgia Elizabeth Looper; sons, Gerald Looper and Tommy Looper; brother, Kennith Looper; grandchildren, Brandi, Michael, Lindsay, Sarah, Lashone, Makayla, Sam, Dahlon, Shane, Brandon, Shawn, and Holly; and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Bailey, Cailey, Laney, Avery, Zane, Kason, and Drew. He was preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Vera Looper and half brother Jerry E. Looper.
Mary Elizabeth “Bettye” Young
Mary Elizabeth “Bettye” Young, a long-time resident of Denton, passed away Monday, December 28, 2009, at a Denton hospital after a short illness. She was 96 years of age.
Bettye was born September 4, 1913, in Denton to Alex E. and Lillie D. (Reynolds) Mullen. She grew up and went to school in Little Elm, Texas, where she became a star basketball player for her high school team. She loved riding horses, bareback, and actually rode her horse to school every day. She also loved playing 42 when friends and family got together.
She moved to Denton in 1944 and in 1946 began working for Russell-Newman Manufacturing Company. About 17 years later she started working for M & B Manufacturing Company. She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Denton in 1957 and worked in the children’s day care center for a period of time.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 4, 2010, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, Jack Schmitz and Son, 705 North Locust Street, Denton, 940-382-6622. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home for visitation on Sunday, January 3, 2010, from 2 – 4 pm.
Officiating at the service will be Roland Small, Cliff Feeler, and Jimmy Christian. Pallbearers will be Bill Brady, Terrell King, Gunter Knight, Jerry Morgan, Fritz Schwalm, and Charles Ray Smith.
Bettye was preceded in death by daughters, Shada Ann Gerganess and Delora Rhea Hutcheson; sisters, Ruth Arthur and Gladys Megginson; and brother, James Rose.
She is survived by her children, Norman Puckett of Denton, Ira Puckett of Rowlett, Charlotte McFarlin and husband Robert of Arlington; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Bettye was a very caring, loving Mother and will be especially missed by her children. Actually, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
