Wanda Sherrill Carlson
Wanda Sherrill Carlson, long-time Denton resident, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2008at her home. She was born September 23, 1921 to Worley and Sarah Parker Sherrill in Wichita Falls, TX. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, past member of the Visual Arts Society, Business & Professional Women, Beta Sigma Phi, PTA and Girl Scout Leader. She was the owner operator of The Beauty Center and became an award winning hair stylist.
Wanda is survived by daughters, Donna and her husband, Hulen Boliver of Lake Dallas and Cheryl Curiel of Denton; grandchildren, Calista Cogdell Glover of Lewisville, Cindy Cogdell of Houston, Candy Cogdell and husband, Rick Hartkorn of McKinney and Jessie Curiel III of Henderson, NV; five great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandson. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Mary La Jean Sherrill of Denton; and several nieces and nephews; as well as care-giver, Rebecca Hayner; and dear friends, Zan and Duck Webb and Billie Pesek. Preceding her in death were her parents; and sister and brother-in-law, Kay Sherrill and Tom Sroksoz.
Memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in the Cole Chapel, at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008.
Dr. Ehtiram Ali Khan
Dr. Ehtiram Ali Khan, of Denton, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2008, in Karachi, Pakistan. He was born February 19, 1935.
His relentless, dedicated service to humanity and medicine will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife, Nayyer, three sons, Amir, Haider (wife, Peggy) and Omar, all of Denton; daughter, Saleha (husband, Bobby) Stautenberger of Converse, TX; and four grandchildren.
Harry Marshall Moore
Harry Marshall Moore, 89, of Carrollton, passed away Sunday January 13, 2008 at Aspen Ridge Lodge in Los Alamos, NM.
He was born on August 19, 1918 on Detroit, TX to James P. and Sallie E. (Callahan) Moore. He retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and served during WWII.
Survivors include his niece, Betty Schwegler and her husband, Erwin of Los Alamos, NM; great-niece, Deborah Schwegler of Fayetteville, NC; and great-nephew, James Schwegler of Denver, CO.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Old Celina Cemetery. Chaplain Tom Silva will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2008, at the funeral home.
Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Linda Earlene Kibler
Linda Earlene Kibler, 59, of Corinth, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2008 in Corinth after a 5-year battle with cancer. She was born September 3, 1948 in Denton to J.W. Scoggins, Jr. and Lillie Mae Cole Scoggins. She graduated from Denton High School and was a member of First Baptist Church of Flower Mound. She worked as a clerk for the Texas Department of Public Safety in Lewisville. The majority of her work experience was in retail in the wireless cell phone industry. She received many awards during that time. She loved to cook and collect antiques.
A memorial service will be Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Flower Mound, 1901 Timber Creek, Flower Mound with Rev. David Williams officiating.
She is survived by daughters, Andrea Dodd and husband, Peter of Corinth and Gretchen Hudson and husband, Rick of Lewisville; sisters, Lisa Reed of OK, Kathy Kniatt of MS and Debbie Self of TX; grandchildren, Amanda, Grace, Chelsey, Jake, Karli, Kamille, Rick and Adam; and mother, Lillie Mae Scoggins of Teague.

Regina J. Mitchell Carson
Services for Regina J. Mitchell Carson, 82, of Valley View, are set for Monday, January 21, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Clement-Keel Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vic Casad officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Mrs. Carson passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2008, following a long illness. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 20, 2008 from 3 – 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born Regina Jane Mitchell on June 9, 1925 in Gainesville to Reuel W. and Grace Stewart Mitchell. She graduated from Newman Daugherty High School in Gainesville in 1943. She attended Texas State College for Women (now Texas Women’s University) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, Recreation and Dance in 1947 and a Master of Science degree in the same field in 1951. During this time, she performed and traveled extensively with the Modern Dance Group. After graduation, she taught Physical Education and Dance at Texas State College for Women, Boston University and North Central Texas College. Shortly after the birth of her youngest child, she began a 23-year teaching career with Gainesville State School. In 1986, she was named Teacher of the Year for the school.
In 1959, she married Edward Floyd (Kit) Carson in Gainesville, TX. Together they raised their three children on the family farm in Valley View. Regina was a long-time member of the Valley View Methodist Church, serving as choir director for many years as well as newsletter editor, and then later became a member of Denton Bible Church. She was also active in the Valley View Senior Citizens Center, serving as treasurer. Regina was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend to many. She was a gentle and loving person with a tender heart and generous spirit.
Regina is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Evalyn and Rod Elliott of Carrollton; son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Karen Carson of The Colony; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Neil Simmons of Salt Lake City, UT; and six grandchildren, Allison and Erin Elliott, Matthew and Mallory Carson and Ben and David Simmons.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sister, Betty Mitchell.

Karen Cecile (Oppecker) Riley
Karen Cecile (Oppecker) Riley, age 48, of Lewisville, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2008, in Denton. She was born November 1, 1959 in Camden, New Jersey to Frank B. Oppecker, Jr. and Janet A. Peterson Oppecker. Karen attended Butler University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama, Voice & Dance. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She married Donald K. Riley on August 14, 1981 in Fortville, Indiana.
Karen was a member and officer of the American Eagle Chapter of Harley Owners Group and a member of the Ladies of Harley.
Since moving to Texas in 1989 she worked for Gymboree Play Center of Grapevine and was a Boutique Leader for Stein Mart of Lewisville. Most recently she operated her own business “Rainbow Babe” which provided Parent-Child Interactive Play Classes with a Christian Perspective.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; parents, Dr. Frank Oppecker and Janet Oppecker of Athens, Georgia; and brother, Kenneth Oppecker of Athens, Georgia.
Funeral service will be held 6:30 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens, Georgia on Wednesday, January 23, 2008.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
