Bobby Wayne Wilkerson

Bobby Wayne Wilkerson, age 71, and a resident of Sanger, Texas, passed away on January 21, 2008 in Denton, Texas. He was born December 19, 1936 to Clyde and Lela Wilkerson in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Phyllis Wilkerson; two sons, Bryan Edlin and Billy Paul Edlin; a daughter, Ronda Mason and her husband, Mike; six grandchildren, Taylor, Logan, Zachary, Brooke, Shelby, and Nadia; one great-grandchild, Tres; and by a niece, Stacey Wallace.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2008 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Dalton & Son Funeral Home in Lewisville, Texas.

R. B. (Bob) Neale, Jr.

R. B. (Bob) Neale, Jr., was born in Archer City, TX on May 25, 1912, and passed away in Denton, TX on January 21, 2008, at Denton Good Samaritan Village at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Gaynelle Yeager Neale, in June 2001.

Bob was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Denton, for 84 years, having joined in 1923. In addition, he was a dedicated member of the church choir for 73 years. He was also an active member of the Denton Kiwanis Club for 72 years.

Bob attended North Ward elementary school and graduated from Denton High School. He worked at First State Bank while attending North Texas State College (now UNT) and graduated with a degree in Latin. After obtaining his degree, R. B. continued at the bank for two more years before working at Denton Dairy for several years. During that time he took a month cruise to Europe in 1937 with his good friend Lattimore Ewing.

For the next six years, Bob was City Secretary-Treasurer of Denton. For the six years after that, Bob worked for his dad, Robert Burke Neale, Sr., who owned the Denton Bus Lines, the “galloping goose” as it was affectionately known at that time. While working for his dad, Bob answered the call of Uncle Sam and served in the U.S. Navy for more than a year. He returned to the bus lines after his Navy duty. Bob became Administrator at Flow Memorial Hospital from December 1951 until August 1960. He became Personnel Director at the Denton State School from September 1960 until December 1974.

Bob retired in 1975 to traveling and enjoying life with Gaynelle. They enjoyed entertaining friends and Sunday School classes at their Southridge home. Bob also enjoyed the challenge of the seventy-six post oak trees around his home; even though the mixed blessing of plenty of oak leaves to rake did provide him plenty of exercise.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Burke Neale, III and his wife, Shelia of Navasota and Allan Yeager Neale and his wife, Mary Louise of Denton. He is also survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2008 in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, 1100 Malone St. Dr. Jeff Williams and the Rev. Cliff Feeler will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Good News Bible Class.

The family will be at the Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2008 for visitation.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or the First Baptist Church choir.

Andrew Clayton McGinnis

Benbrook — Andrew Clayton McGinnis, 91, passed away, Monday, Jan. 21, 2008.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008 in Greenwood Chapel. Visitation was from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Andrew McGinnis was born to Jeffie Clayton McGinnis and Andrew Cleveland McGinnis in Denton Feb. 13, 1916. He attended all grades on the campus of North Texas State College in Denton until he completed high school in June of 1931. Children taught on campus were known as “model ducks” because they were the pupils of university professors and students studying to become teachers. In 1931, he enrolled in the university program and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English in August 1935. One of his fondest memories was watching Charles Lindberg fly over the college campus to the delight of the waving students.

Mr. McGinnis joined the Army Air Corps in 1936, served through the end of World War II and resigned from the corps in September 1945. Mr. McGinnis served in the training command as a radar flight instructor, teaching high-speed code, wire nets, radio nets and maintenance and operation of radar equipment. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and was promoted to 2nd lieutenant. When Mr. McGinnis returned to Fort Worth he became a high school teacher at Central High School, later named Green B. Trimble High School, where he taught Radio and TV repair for 23 years.

In 1974, he married Alice Torres Navejar, the mother of three children. Andrew and Alice both worked for the Fort Worth Independent School District where they met. Andrew was so happy to stepfather her children and he greatly influenced their interest in higher education. He tutored Felix in math and sciences and took him to enroll at Texas A & M where Felix graduated with a degree in Meteorology. Andrew attained a Masters in Education Administration at Texas Christian University and encouraged Alice to also earn a Masters degree in Education.

He retired from his position as Liaison Director of Adult Education to become a full time parent. The love and attention he gave to Alice and the children can only be described as unselfish devotion. Andrew was an outstanding role model for his family and the community.

His hobbies were fishing, working as a “Ham Operator”, doing crossword puzzles and reading many books, on average, two a week. He also sponsored several foreign exchange students that attended schools in the area. In 2007, he donated all of his ham equipment to the Lyndon Baines Johnson High School in Austin, Texas where students are taught communications and morse code.

He will be greatly missed by his family.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; sister, Jane McGinnis Russell of Monroe, La.; stepchildren, Felicia Lindsay and son-in-law, Gary, Felix Jr. and Alicia Navejar of Lake Charles, La. and Tiffin and Dana Navejar; grandchildren: Kevin Navejar, Chase, Tanner and Sarah Lindsay and Felix III and Natasha Navejar; and a cousin, Eugene Strange.

Marie Castleberry

Marie Castleberry, 83, of Denton passed away Monday, January 21, 2008 in Denton. She was born April 24, 1924 in Elbert, TX to William Eugene and Nora Mildred Keeten Bruton. She married Carl Castleberry on August 18, 1945 in Denton. He preceded her in death. She retired from Moore Business Forms and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 23, 2008 from 6 – 8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with Rev. Cliff Feeler officiating. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael French, Johnny Jeter, Tommy Seay, Cye Foster, Brad Foster, Ted Foster and Brad Garrett.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Jarrell of Denton; grandsons, Eric Jarrell and wife, Shelley of Krum and Bryan Jarrell and wife, Charla of Krum; and grandchildren, Kode Jarrell, Sarah Jarrell and Ethan Jarrell, all of Krum. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Weldon Bruton.

Jo Anna Wood Minter

Jo Anna Wood Minter died January 20, 2008 at her home at Sanger, TX. She was born November 27, 1948 in Pecos, TX, to John and Helen (Keen) Wood.  She married Mike Minter on May 13, 1972 in Denton, TX.

Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Sanger, TX on Thursday January 24th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Skip McNeal officiating.  Interment will follow at Bolivar Cemetery, Bolivar, TX.  Visitation will be from 7 to 8 Wednesday, January 23rd, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust St. Denton, TX.

Jo Anna was an avid horsewoman and enjoyed dressage and trail riding on her horse Fox. She owned several beloved horses through the years, loved the western riding traditions, and all the time she spent with her friends and their horses.

Jo Anna was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sanger, and a Sanger resident since 1985. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, both the Sanger Chapter #1027 and Pilot Point Chapter #1025. She was active in the charitable work of her O.E.S. chapters. Jo Anna loved the Eastern Star ceremonies and the office of Conductress, more especially the initiation ceremony in which she attained a high degree of proficiency. Her Church and the O.E.S. were an important part of her life.

Survived by husband: Mike Minter of Sanger, TX; father, Capt. John M. Wood, Texas Rangers Ret. and wife Jewell; brother: Charles E. Wood and wife DeLora; uncle, Bill Wood; aunts, Mildred Keen and Rachel Garner; cousins, Shannon Harrison, Paul Wood and Don Wood; nephews, Charles E. Wood Jr., John Mark Wood; niece: Ladonna Chism; great-nephews and niece: Andrew, Mathew, Trini, Devin and Jacqueleen.

Jo Anna is also survived by a myriad of Order of the Eastern Star sisters and brothers world wide as well as beloved neighbors and friends who lovingly supported her throughout her long illness. She will be missed by all of them.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Helen Jack (Peggy) Keen Wood; grandparents A.R. and Geneva Wood and Charles N. and Anna Sue Keen, and an aunt, Beatrice Keen.

Willa Dean Hughes

Willa Dean Hughes, age 70, passed away on January 18, 2008. She was born November 7, 1937 in Bowling Green, Kentucky to Alton and Lula Taylor.

She is survived by daughter, Mary Ann Blasczyk of Denton, TX; daughter, Cheryl Cummings and husband Jim of Valley View, TX; an Aunt, Dee Smith of Bowling Green, KY; Eight Grandchildren and Five Great Grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband Larry Hughes; and two sons, Michael Penn and Tony Hughes.

 

 Max Frederick Oelschlaeger

Max Frederick Oelschlaeger, 86, of Denton passed away on January 17, 2008 in Denton. He was born in Abilene, KS to Fred and Georgia Ann Weber Oelschlaeger on June 30, 1921.  He graduated from Kansas State in 1943 with a degree in Civil Engineering. While in college he participated in ROTC and was veteran from World War II serving in the Signal Corp. of the United States Army. He retired as Captain. While in college he married Charlotte Robson on July 4, 1942. He felt they would always have a holiday on their anniversary. Except for the two years in the Army, they had that pleasure. He had four sons, Max, Dennis, Steven and Douglas.

Max retired at the age of 70 from LaFarge. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Charlotte, four sons and their wives, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren and his brother Harold Oelschlaeger. He was a dedicated father & husband.  He won the Silver Beaver award from the Boy Scouts of America.

Visitation will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors, Wednesday, January 23rd from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 24th at 10:30 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Nilmeier officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
