Dovie E. Hodnett Serren Blake, 85 of Aubrey, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2007 in Denton.
Arrangements are pending with Slay Memorial Funeral Center, Aubrey, TX.
Elizabeth “Diane” Baker
Elizabeth “Diane” Baker, 50, of Justin, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton. She was born August 17, 1957 in Fresno, CA to Dearl Wayne and JoAnn Ham Hambrick. She married David Baker on November 12, 1982. She worked for Corporate Contractors, Inc. She attended Sage Meadow Christian Fellowship, and was a supporter of Justin Youth Association and Highland Village Softball Association.
Visitation will be Friday, May 30, 2008 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Sage Meadow Christian Fellowship, 531 John Wiley Rd., Justin. A memorial service will be Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Sage Meadow Christian Fellowship with Rev. Bryan Hendricks officiating.
She is survived by her husband, David Baker of Justin; daughters, Joanna Johnson and husband, Doug of Justin, Melissa Moon and husband, Cary of Mansfield and Stephanie Wydner and husband, Sam of Lewisville; grandchildren, Hunter Johnson, Taylor Johnson and Braden Wydner; mother, JoAnn Hambrick of AR; sister, Cynthia Bocksnick of London AR; brothers, David Carl Hambrick, Kenneth Hambrick, John Dennis Hambrick and David Monroe Hambrick, all of AR. She is preceded in death by her father, Dearl Wayne Hambrick; and grandchildren, Ethan Logan and Abigail Faith Moon.
Beverly Jean Thrash
Beverly Jean Thrash of Norman, Oklahoma (formerly of Corinth, Texas) passed away after an extended illness on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Norman Regional Hospital. She was born in Duncan OK, on August 30, 1936 to Walter Clarence and Flora Inez Stewart. Her family moved often, so she had the opportunity to attend various schools in Oklahoma and Texas, graduating from high school in Texas in 1954.
In the early 1960’s she moved to California and there she met and later married Walter Wayne Thrash, a young man from Rogers, AR on November 11, 1961. In 2001, they moved to Corinth, TX where her husband passed away in 2002.
For the past six months she has lived in Norman close to her brothers. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling as well as shopping and taking care of her best friend and favorite dog, Cinnaman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Flora Stewart; husband, Wayne Thrash on July 17, 2002; and daughter, Wanda Vogel on March 19, 2008.
She is survived by; son-in-law, Ron Vogel of Lake Dallas, TX; three brothers, Bill Price and wife, Joyce of Newcastle, OK, Ernie Price and wife, Patti of Norman, OK and Jim Price and wife, Rachel of Blanchard, OK; two grandchildren, Tina McGinnis of Lake Dallas, TX and Ken Miller and wife, Meredith of Justin, TX; four great grandchildren, Jeffrey Olschewski, Ashlee and Michael McGinnis and Andon Miller; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2008 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association, 1700 Rutherford Lane, Austin, TX 78754.

Martha Jurecka
Denton – Martha Jurecka, 87 of Denton, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. She was born on June 10, 1920 in Theda, TN to William Lee and Addie May (Mullins) Carrigan. She married Henry Jurecka in November of 1937. She retired from Victor Equipment Co. where she worked in assembly. She was a member of Gateway United Baptist Church in Denton.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Slay Memorial Funeral Center, Rev. Luther Slay and Rev. Buddy Owens will officiate. Burial will follow at Pilot Point Community Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008 from 6 – 8 p.m.
She is survived by three sons, Cloyce Jurecka and wife, Kay of Colleyville, Frankie Jurecka and wife, Linda of Collinsville and Jerry Jurecka of Allen. She is also survived by two brothers, Leslie Carrigan of Tioga and Austin Carrigan of Waco; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
Services are under the direction of Slay Memorial Funeral Center, Aubrey, TX.
Vivienne VanderMeulen
Our loss is heaven’s gain. Matriarch angel Vivienne VanderMeulen departed her temporary earthly home Tuesday, May 27, 2008 leaving behind a legacy of love, loyalty and leadership.
Born December 21, 1922 in Chicago, IL Vivienne Beata Obermann was the only child of Edward and Bessie Rose. She married Edger VanderMeulen in an intimate ceremony in San Antonio, TX.
Mother to Nancysue (Taffy) Holland of Carrollton, TX, Danise Tomlin of Arcata, CA and Kurt VanderMeulen of Austin. Known and loved as Mimi by six grand angels, as well as six great grand angels.
A Proverbs 31 woman, Vivienne led and loved her family with elegance, tenacity and a pioneering spirit. After years of persistent determination, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from North Texas State University in 1992 at the young age of 69. A member of both Dallas and Denton society organizations her interests included fashion modeling, garden club, aerial club, Sunday school, hospital volunteering, poetry, entertaining and travel.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church 300 W. Oak Denton, TX.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Andrew Memorial Fund.

Col. Carlos Manuel Muniz
Col. Carlos Manuel Muniz passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at his home in Robson Ranch, Denton, Texas of natural causes at the age of 95. He was born on Feb 9, 1913 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico and graduated from the Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine and the Harvard University School of Public Health.
After several ventures in Puerto Rico, including a private small animal practice, he joined the Air Force in 1952 and was immediately assigned to Germany. He was reassigned to Madrid, Spain in 1954 to help establish the US Air Force presence in Spain where he spent another 4 years. While in Europe he joined the US Air Force Bobsled team that competed in several World Championships in Cortina (Italy), St Moritz (Switzerland), Garmisch (Germany) and Lake Placid (New York). His Air Force career took him to many exciting places including Washington, DC, California and Panama. He retired from the Air Force in 1975 while stationed at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama where he lived until 2006.
He was always very active and retirement proved to be very fulfilling with world travels, golf (one of his passions), and painting, cooking and gardening. He was an active golfer until the age of 93, coming close to shooting his age, which is quite an achievement in the golfing community. He moved to Denton, Texas to be close to his son, Carlos, Jr. and his wife, Leta.
He is survived by his wife of 67 yrs, Gladys M. Muniz; and by his three sons, Carlos Jr., Jose Luis and Jaime. He is remembered by friends and family as a fun loving guy who loved gatherings, especially those that involved food, which he was happy to prepare, or music to which he loved to dance.
There will be a small memorial service at the Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home at 705 N. Locust St in Denton, Texas on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. His ashes will be placed at the national cemetery in Dallas, Texas.

Gloria Jean Neace
Gloria Jean Neace, age 61, of Denton, passed away Wednesday May 28, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton. She was born February 13, 1947 in Sanger, Texas to Benjamin Franklin Owens, Jr. and Gracie Faye Owens Nix. She was a member of the Full Gospel Family Worship Center and worked as a Child Nutritionist for Denton I.S.D. before retirement.
She married Wilbern Glen Neace, Sr. on September 15, 1967 in Denton, Texas. She is survived by her husband, Glen of Denton; son, Wilbern Glen Neace, Jr. and wife, Terri Lynn of Ponder; daughter, Ronda LaJeane John and husband, Brent Ray; stepdaughter, Lena Grace Walker and husband, Darin of Denton; mother, Gracie Faye Owens Nix of Denton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her father; and sister, Carol Sue Estes.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Full Gospel Family Worship Center 209 Mockingbird Lane, Denton, TX. 76201. Burial will follow at Belew Cemetery, Aubrey, Texas. The Rev. Jack Howard and Rev. Stephen Repstraw will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 - 8 p.m., Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home 705 N. Locust St.

Ione M. Albers
Ione M. Albers, 88, of Denton, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008. She was born October 16, 1919 in Nixon, TX to Andrew and Lena Meyers, who has preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Albers, Sr.
She is survived by her four children, Edward Albers, Jr., of Murchison, Vilena and husband, Johnny Jester of Denton, Mike and wife, Peggy Albers of Bivins and Mark and wife, Cindy Albers of Kaufman; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her loving family.
We want to express our appreciation to Lake Forest Good Samaritan and Hospice Heart to Heart for all their wonderful help.
Family visitation will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Troy Suggs Chapel with Bro. Raymond Castro officiating. Interment to follow at Laurel Oaks Memorial Park in Mesquite, TX.

Patricia Jean Traywick Reynolds
Patricia Jean Traywick Reynolds, 77, of Denton, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at her residence. She was born February 26, 1931 in Wewoka, OK to Ernest and Mymia (McClain) Traywick. She was married for many years to Tom Reynolds. She retired from FEMA after 13 years. She was a loving mother and a very giving person. She was very active in her church. She loved to go to church and it didn’t matter where, she just wanted to attend services. She loved artwork. She especially loved her family and will be remembered for her good sense of humor.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 6pm at the Denton Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Luther Slay will officiate.
Patricia is survived by her son, Michael Veronikas of Amarillo, TX; daughters, Elaine Tilton of Denton and Phyllis Smith of Santa Fe, NM; brother, Paul Traywick of Abbeyville, LA; sister, Paulette Gilbert of Amarillo, TX; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Tom.
