Josephine Stevens, 84, of Pilot Point, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2008 in Pilot Point.
Arrangements are pending with Huff/Slay Funeral Home, Pilot Point, TX.
Irene Stewart Gilbert Haney,
Irene Stewart Gilbert Haney, lovingly known to her family as “Booty”, was born January 16, 1926 in Dallas County and died June 18, 2008 at Cedar Hill, Texas, after a long illness. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21 at the Lake City United Methodist Church, 300 E. Hundley Drive, Lake Dallas, TX 75067.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Pat L. Haney, her step-son, Ron Haney, parents, Roland and Laura Stewart, Sr., sister, Minnie S Bates and brothers: James L, A Roland Jr, J Howard, Reveau S., and C.W. “Bill” Stewart.
She is survived by two sisters: Doris Allen of Lewisville, Texas, Betty O’Barr of Winnsboro, Texas, a step son, Ken Haney of Austin, Texas, 7grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
Irene loved people and used her resources, wit, intellect, and nurturing spirit to bring joy and quality of life to innumerable lives.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to a favorite charity.
Ramiro and Carolina Suarez,
Ramiro and Carolina Suarez, of Denton, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2008 in Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico. They were both born in M. Muzquiz, Coahuila, Mexico. They were married on March 14, 1970 in M. Muzquiz, Coahuila, Mexico. Carolina Suarez was a teacher’s aide with the Little Elm ISD and Ramiro Suarez was the manager of Villa Grande Mexican Restaurant.
Funeral service will be Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Templo Vida Nueva, 2417 Barnard St. with Pastor Jose Lopez officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Ramiro and Carolina are survived by their children, Lorena Medina of Denton, Cesar Suarez of Argyle and Edgar Suarez of Denton; and four grandchildren. Ramiro is survived by sisters, Alicia Martinez of VA and Dora Lopez of OR; brothers, Sergio Suarez and Oscar Manuel Suarez of Mexico. Carolina is survived by her sister, Bertha Almazan of Mexico; brothers, Joel Ramirez and Javier Ramirez, both of Denton and Jose Maria Ramirez of Eagle Pass.
Shelly D. Price
Shelly D. Price passed away at her home in Tryon, OK on Wednesday, June 18, 2008. She was born in Tulia, TX on July 12, 1965. She was raised in Denton TX and spent the better part of her life in Tryon, OK.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2008 at Strode Funeral Home Chapel.
She is survived by her husband, David R. Price; her parents, Lucy and Don Johnston, and Raymond and Lyn Brown; two brothers, Darren Brown and Sonny Brown; three sisters, Lydia Brown, Sarah Brown and Naomi Brown; four daughters, Tabatha, Pamela, Ashley and Crystal.
She was an amazing “NANA” to her multiple grandchildren. She will be remembered for the wonderful wife, daughter, sister, mother, and nana that she was. She will forever be with us.

Lorene Prater
Lorene Prater, of Sanger passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2008 in Sanger at the age of 86. She was born to the late Omer Clyde and Julia Kay (Hoehn) Harris on January 31, 1922 in Krum. She married Dallas Prater on May 14, 1938. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1987. Mrs. Prater was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sanger. She was a homemaker, but most of all, she was exactly what God intended a mother and grandmother to be.
Mrs. Prater is survived by; daughter and son-in-law, Keta and Al Keith of Sanger; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Don and Jackie Prater of Sanger; daughter-in-law, Mary Potts; four sisters, Ruth Terrell, Joan Harris, Evelyn Barton and Sue Amyx, all of Denton; brother, David Harris of Drop; grandchildren, Jan Morrison, Carrie Briney, Evelyn Langley, Mike Prater and Mitch Prater; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband; one son, Larry Prater in 1989; and one brother, Olen “Shorty” Harris.
The family received friends Friday, June 20, 2008 at Coker Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the First Baptist of Sanger, with E.L. McNeal officiating. Interment will follow in the Bolivar Cemetery under the direction of Coker Funeral Home.
The family has requested donations be made the First Baptist Church, 708 S. 5th , Sanger, Texas 76266.
Erich R. Benz
Erich R. Benz, 54, of Denton, passed away Monday, June 16, 2008, at Norman Regional Hospital, Norman, OK. Erich was a truck driver for more than 30 years. His gift was one of friendship and love of family with faith in God that touched many lives far and wide throughout his travels.
Survived by his loving family, his mother, Mabel Benz; wife, Jackie; sons, Billy, Russell and Justin; and daughter, Cayla. Six precious grandchildren, Dakota, Cheyanne, Chance, Carter, Tatum and Drake, all reside in Denton. Condolences come from all over the country, from other family members and many friends.
A memorial service celebrating Erich’s life will be held at Friendship Church, 3813 W. University Dr., Denton, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2008.
Dr. Mack D. Vaughan, Jr.
Dr. Mack D. Vaughan, Jr., 87, of Denton, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Denton Regional Medical Center. He was born August 7, 1920, in Clarksville, TX to Mack D. (Pop) Sr. and Arietta (Sammie) Hart Vaughan. He was married to Marjorie Lee on July 5, 1950, in Arkadelphia, AR. He is a Professor Emeritus at the University of North Texas Art Department in Advertising Design, beginning in 1965 and retiring in about 1989, and had Art Shows in Painting and Photography. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Denton Country Club, and the Faculty Gourmet Club of the University of North Texas.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2008, in the First United Methodist Church, 210 S. Locust, Denton, with Rev. Lisa Marshall officiating. His cremains will be placed in the Columbarium at the Church. The family will be at the Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, for visitation from 6 - 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2008.

Dr. Vaughan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie Vaughan of Denton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Roy E. Busby of Krugerville and Evelyn and John Welle of Hurst; a brother, James W. (Buddy) Vaughan of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Becky Bumpers, Amanda Busby, Travis Busby, and Derek Welle; two great-grandchildren, Raymond and Bryan Bumpers; two nieces; and two nephews.
Mattie Lou Grant
Frisco – Mattie Lou Grant, 93, of Frisco, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at her home. She was born on August 7, 1914 in Tioga to James William and Gussie Ann (Maynor) Scoggins. She married Walter Grant in 1928. She worked at the Frisco Laundry Mat, was a seamstress, and later was a cook at a local Frisco café and for the Frisco Independent School District.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Tioga Cemetery, Rev. Luther Slay will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, 2008 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Slay Memorial Funeral Center.
She is survived by many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter; daughter, Marie Watkins; son-in-law, Louie Watkins; granddaughter, Janice Watkins; and seven brothers and sisters.

Corinne Cockrill
Corinne Cockrill, 101, of Denton, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at home. She was born September 19, 1906 in Meridian TX to Arthur H. and Susan Ivy Landtroop Lester. She married James C. Cozby, Jr. on November 9, 1930 in Breckenridge. He preceded her in death in July 1942. She later married John P. Cockrill on March 1, 1952 in Denton. He preceded her in death in April 1967. She retired in 1973 from Texas Woman’s University as head of the duplicating department and was a member of the McKinney Street Baptist Church, formerly College View Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 22, 2008 from 3 – 4 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be Monday, June 23, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with Rev. Bill Black officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
She is survived by sons, James A. Cozby and his wife, Wanda of Denton and Robert L. Cozby and his wife, Frazee of Carrollton; grandchildren, Ralyn Fletcher, Sheila Bowles, Cindy Walterscheid, Natalie Carter, Rob Cozby, Norman Cozby and Eric Cozby and several great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands; daughter, Betty Lyn Jeter; and three sisters.
