Brenda Joyce Mathews

Brenda Joyce Mathews passed away at home, in her sleep on July 1, 2009 after a year battle with medical complications. She was being cared for at home by hospice. She was with her devoted husband, Ron and surrounded by her beloved pets. 

Brenda was born in Oklahoma City Hospital, on August 7, 1953 the daughter of Jack Lee Ashbaugh and Verna Geraldine Jones, a Cherokee Native American.

They both predeceased her.

She was a Registered Nurse and worked at Galveston UTMB, among others; as a traveling nurse until her illness last May. She met her husband, Ronald Eric Mathews while working in El Paso, TX on October 31, 1999. They married on October 31, 2000.

She is survived by her son Jason (Heidi) Ashbaugh of Denton and two brothers; Paul Martin Ashbaugh and Jack Leon Ashbaugh.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Aria Funeral Home of Dallas. A private wake service will be held at the home. There will be no public viewing, at her request.

 

 

Mary Lois Anderson

Mary Lois Anderson, 82 of Pilot Point, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009. She was born on August 17, 1926 in Howe to Forest and Elizabeth (O’Dell) Lusk. She married Clarence Anderson on October 2, 1944 in Beaver, OK. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 9 am at Huff/Slay Funeral Home in Pilot Point, burial will follow at Pilot Point Community Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.

She is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Johnson of Galveston and Kathy Timlin of Mammoth Springs, AR, and one son, Bill Anderson of Aubrey. She is also survived by four grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her husband and one son Charlie Anderson.

Mary Loretta Blair

Mary Loretta Blair, 83, of Denton passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at her residence. She was born December 10, 1925 in Denton to Veaco Vaughn and Julia Crout Vaughn. She married James Garland Blair on November 7, 1941. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1990. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Early Bird Sunday School Class, Baptist Women, Habitat for Humanity and hospital volunteer at Denton Community Hospital.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 2, 2009 from 6 – 8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors.Graveside service will be Friday, July 3, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ruth West and Carol Clark, both of Denton; son, Jim and wife Karen Blair of Denton; grandchildren, Riley and Angi Blagg of Denton, Bobby and Glenna Blagg of Sanger, Kristi Galan of Denton, Lane Blair of Farmers Branch, Kelly and Joe Creasey of Norman OK, and Julie and Michael King of Poolville; 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Grandville Floyd Vaughn and Homer Lloyd Vaughn.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Habitat for Humanity of Denton.

The family will receive friends at Loretta’s home following the graveside service.

 

 

Jose Arista

Jose Arista, 59, passed away June 30, 2009. He will be joining his wife, Maria Felix Arista, and daughter, Martha J. Arista.

He is survived by his children Lety Arista, Elvia Arista, Cristina and Emmanuel Alvarez; Laura and Demetrio Hernandez; Josue Arista, and Robert Arista; grandchildren Xitlaly and Saul Hernandez.

He will be laid to rest in Guerrero, Mexico.

 

 

Jeffrey Scott Applin

Jeffrey Scott Applin passed away June 27 2009. He was born August 28, 1959.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, two grandchildren, his mother, grandmother, brother and sister.

Friends and family will be received Wednesday, July 1, 2009 from 1-4 pm at Tioga First Baptist Church.

A memorial Services will be held Thursday July 2, 2009 at 3 pm at White Rock United Methodist Church 1450 Oldgate Lane Dallas TX, 75218.

James Robert “Bob” Alred

James Robert “Bob” Alred, 76, of Valley View passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009 in Gainesville. A memorial service will be held at Christ The Great Shepherd Church in Sanger on July 3, 2009 at 4 p.m. Family burial will follow at Pella Cemetery in Forestburg. DeBerry Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

James Robert “Bob” Alred, better known as “Pappy” was born in Denton on October 28, 1932 to Claude and Lucille Alred.Bob married the former Gala Parker on June 11, 1952. They resided in the Hemming Community of Valley View for the past 33 years. He attended schools in Denton, worked as a ranch manager, self-employed horse trainer, and rodeo cowboy. He was an avid fisherman, bird hunter and wolf hunter. He had a way with and loved training kids, horses and dogs. Many a young man can credit him with time and effort spent developing their individual roping abilities. His favorite time was spent roping with his grandsons and loving all the grand and great grandchildren. He never asked much of anyone, but was loved by all, especially his family and close friends. All he implanted to each of us will go forth and be implanted to others.

Some of his accomplishments include, training of 2 World Champion Calf Roping horses and 2 Reserve World Champion Roping horses, CRA All-Around and Calf Roping Championships.

He loved steak and potatoes, but did not like waiting on people and people who did not keep their word. His hero was Matlock Rose. He wrote “I wish I could rope again with my grandchildren and feel as good as I did when I was 20 years old, and still be training horses and doing the last 50 years over and better.”

He is survived by his wife Gala Alred of Valley View; sister, Linda Fox and husband Bill of Aubrey; sister-in-law, Marcella Hale of Houston; son, Davie Bob Alred of Dallas; daughter, Julie LaVerne Fritz Alred of Valley View; grandchildren and spouses, Lanie Diane and Chris Craig of Denton, Lisa Dawn and Tim Garrett of Denton, Jerami JoDan and Kristy Fritz of Sunset, Katie Jo and Joseph Weaver of Krum, Jim Bob Fritz of Valley View, Tanner Wade Alred of Valley View; great grandchildren, Shelby, Jacob and Ashlyn Craig, David and Taylor Chernosky, Tyler and Kaleb Garrett, Rami Taya Fritz, Hannah and Hayden Weaver; nieces, Karen Adams and husband Jeremy, Sherry Alred, Suzannah Bowers and husband Mike, Tamara Hall and husband Bill, Mary Katherine Maurice and husband Jason; nephews, Bryan Fox and wife Placy, Macky Alred and wife Jenny, Shandon Hale, along with each of their children.He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Lucille Alred and brother, Bill Alred.
