Alford Fred Jones

Alford Fred Jones, of Irving passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 in Sanger at the age of 74.

Mr. Jones was born on July 6, 1934 in Cooke County to Fred Jones & Dorothy Hester Jones. He attended school in Sanger, Denton and graduated from Pilot Point Gee High School in 1953. Mr. Jones married Annette Thompson on January 16, 1954 in Carrollton.

Mr. Jones retired from General Telephone Company after 38 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the Northview Baptist Church.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Annette Jones of Irving; mother, Dorothy Jones of Pilot Point; daughter, Debbie Caldwell of Sanger; son, Mark Jones of Irving; brother, Roland Jones of Pilot Point; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, 6-7 p.m. at Coker Funeral Home, 403 Pecan Street, Sanger. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, July 25, at the Calvary Baptist Church Pilot Point, Texas. Interment will follow in the Tyson Cemetery, under the direction of Coker Funeral Home.

U’Nita Faye Sweatmon

U’Nita Faye Sweatmon passed out of this life on Monday, July 21, 2008 at her home.  She was born July 21, 1925 in Stanford, TX to Madison Homer and Brucie Gordon (Williams) Rogers.  She was married to Robert Forest Sweatmon, Jr. on

 June 8, 1946 in San Angelo, TX.  Graduated from San Angelo High School in 1942, and received a Bachelors of Music Degree from Hardin-Simmons University in 1946. 

 She served on the Faculty of Hardin Simmons University, and the Texas School of Fine Arts in Austin.  Also served as Minister of Music for First Christian Church of San Angelo, College Hills Christian Church of San Angelo and Hyde Park Christian Church of Austin, TX.  She served 15 years on Texas Music Teachers Student Affiliate Council including Theory. Served as chairman of Division IV including designing and writing the Vocal/Orchestral theory tests: Coordinator of World of Music (History) program and writing two study books of Music History, Coordinator of Publications Competition.  Texas Music Teachers Association named her Pre-Collegiate Teacher of the Year in 1999.  Also worked as Vocal Coach for Denton Community Theater Musicals.

Sang first public solo at the age of 4 years in the First Christian Church of San Angelo.  This began a lifelong career of stage performances, which included Theater, Opera, Musical Theater, Dance and Oratorio.  Made last performance at age 77 years in “My Fair Lady” She performed all through the Southern States from California to Florida.  She has been a Master teacher of Voice and Piano for 62 years.  She also enjoyed writing poetry and composing music.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2008 in First Christian Church, 1203   Fulton St.  Denton, with Rev. Oran Nabors, and Rev. Don Bohlcke, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Park.  The   family will be at the Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton for visitation from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2008

She is proudest of her sons and grandchildren.  She considered her family her greatest work.  She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Bruce (Slim) and Ginger Sweatmon and Lyman Douglas and Dawn Sweatmon; and two grandchildren; Donnie Pockrus and Danielle Nicole Sweatmon.  And many members of her musical family of students.

Ruby “Jo” Johnson Morrow

Ruby “Jo” Johnson Morrow was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 19, 2008. After years of battling strokes and diabetes, she is finally free.

Jo was born April 20, 1954 to Jewel (Sims) and Ike Johnson in Denton, Texas. She attended Denton schools and lived and worked in Denton her entire life. On June 9, 1972, Jo married David H. Morrow of Searcy, Arkansas.

She is survived by her son, David Morrow, Jr. of Denton; and three sisters, Linda McKeown and husband, David of Denton, Shirley Kraus and husband, Bob of Denton, and Daphne St. John and husband, Jimmy of Fort Worth. Numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews will dearly miss her.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; and brothers, Butch Johnson and Buddy Johnson.

A memorial service to celebrate Jo’s life will be held at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, July 28, 2008 at 2 p.m.

 

 

Helen Marie Quinn

Helen Marie Quinn, age 76 of Little Elm, Texas passed away on July 20, 2008 in Denton, Texas. She was born May 31, 1932 to Marie (Morgan) and Howell Henry Green in Dallas, Texas. On June 20, 1949, Helen married Robert E. Quinn in Dallas, Texas.

Helen is survived by her sons, Patrick L. Quinn of Little Elm, Texas, Michael B. Quinn and his wife, Frances of Krum, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer Wyche, Cory Quinn, Jordan Ham; and great-granddaughter, Alexia Marsh.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Quinn and brother, Richard Green.

A Memorial Service will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Frisco, Texas on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Buddy Garland officiating. A visitation will follow the service.
