Thomas Jackson “Jack” Barrett
Thomas Jackson “Jack” Barrett, 76, of Denton passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Cottonwood Manor. He was born February 8, 1933 in Belmont, NC to John A. Barrett, Sr. and Madge Sellers Barrett. He graduated from Mt. Holly High School and NC Business College and served in the U.S. Navy. He married Gaylia “Gail” Garrison on December 15, 1979 in Grapevine. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, a member of the Administration Board, Finance Committee, Hospitality Team, Over The Hill Gang, and volunteered for the Denton County Toy Store and ARM Food Bank. He retired from The Kroger Co.
A memorial service will be Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Denton with Rev. Lisa Marshall officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Barrett of Denton; daughter, Sheryl Barrett of Corsicana; sons, Steve Grayson of Coppell, Mark Daman of Irving; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Doris Wright and brother, Dr. John A. Barrett Jr.

Floyd Glenn Smith
Floyd Glenn Smith of Euless passed away peacefully Sunday evening at the age of 77.Service will be held at 3 pm Friday, July 31, 2009 at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, with a reception to follow at Bluebonnet Hills Reception Room. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the funeral home. An additional Memorial Service will be held at 3 pm Monday, August 3, 2009 at Denton Bible Church, 2300 E. University Drive, Denton, TX.
Raised in Denton, Mr. Smith joined his father in business after returning home from his service in the Navy in 1954. Mr. Smith and his wife of 57 years, Aiko, settled in Euless though he traveled to Denton each day for work where he built upon his father’s business and became a highly respected business man and pillar of the community. Mr. Smith worked closely with the City of Denton, Jagoe Public, and Peterbilt Motors for more than three decades. Mr. Smith and his wife Aiko have been generous benefactors of youth sports, donating both time and money to Euless and Denton organizations. He coached mid-cities basketball boys and girls for 33 years, resulting in his induction in the H.E.B. Hall of Fame, donated score boards to Trinity High School in Euless, and Denton Guyer High School, and contributed 4 annual scholarships to HEB ISD deserving athletes.
His memory may be honored with a donation to the HEB Sports Hall of Fame, Floyd and Aiko Smith Scholarship Fund, at 1819 Central Dr., Bedford, TX 76022.
Though Mr. Smith will be greatly missed, he will also be very well remembered.
Harold F. Clegg
Harold F. Clegg, 71, of Sweetwater, TX passed away Monday, July 27, 2009 at Hendrick Medical Center.
He was born January 18, 1938 in Sweetwater.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Friday July 31, 2009 at Lamar Street Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Cottonwood Flat Cemetery under the direction of Cater-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Stephen Clegg, Calvin “Bugger” Daniel, Dale Finch, Jack Kennedy, Clyde Wagner and Sam Young. Honorary Pallbearers are Recreational Building Men’s Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 7-8 pm.
Harold married Joyce Kaydell Hite November 27, 1958 in Sweetwater, TX. He was a member and also a deacon of Lamar Street Baptist Church. He worked as a mechanic at U.S. Gypsum, Flintkote, Domtar and was also self-employed and operated Harold’s Garage.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Clegg of Sweetwater, TX; two sons, Scott Clegg and wife Sylvia of Euless, TX and Bill Clegg and wife Donna of Houston, TX and two grandchildren; Stephen Clegg and Dr. Jennifer Clegg, both of Houston, TX. One brother; Richard Clegg and wife Valeree of Sanger, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 3001 North Big Spring Street, Suite #104, Midland, TX 79705.
Murray Franklin Parker
Murray Franklin Parker was born July 22, 1949 in Denton, Texas to Franklin and Ethel Lee (Ussery) Parker. He attended Denton High School and worked as a painter after high school.He worked for Bill’s Painting, owned by Bill Robinson, for many years.
He loved motorcycles, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. His love of Harley-Davidson is what many people remember the most about him. Also that he never turned a friend away who needed help. That is how most people remember Murray. They remember him as loyal, trustworthy, dependable and kind.
He married Hilda Cantu of Denton after high school and they had two children, Shawnee Parker and Israel Cantu, both of Denton. He was a kind and loving father and will be missed every day.
He is also survived by another son, Jason Parker, from his second marriage. He is survived by many relatives, all who will miss him greatly, including his mother Ethel Parker. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Brittany and Anthony Duran of Denton.
Murray’s love of bikes and the outdoors is only surpassed by the love he showed for his family. The graveside service will be held at Old Alton Cemetery at 2 pm on Sunday August 2, 2009 Father Chamberlain will officiate. Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home are handling arrangements.
