Lee Miller
Lee Miller, 85, passed away August 1, 2007 in Fort Worth.
Services are pending with Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Etta L. Babb
Etta L. Babb, 84, of Denton, passed away Friday, July 27, 2007 in Denton.
Etta was born August 11, 1922 in Frankford, MO to Ola and Christa Walkley. She was married to Maurice Babb in Hannibal, MO on February 26, 1942.
She was a member of the VFW in Center, MO. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years at Union Chapel Church in Center, MO.
She is preceded in death by her husband; daughters Karen Sinclair, and Karla Babb; and her son Eric Babb.
Etta is survived by her sister Esther Smith of New London, MO; her daughter Sandra K. Saunders; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Betty Louise Gilbreath
Betty Louise Gilbreath, 76, of Denton died Friday, July 27, 2007 in Denton. She was born January 17, 1931 in Fort Worth to John Thomas Dush and Hazel Rodgers Dush. She married Billy Gilbreath on June 26, 1948 in Kaufman. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sons, Larry and Tommy Gilbreath. She was retired from Western Surety Corp.
Graveside services will be Friday, August 3, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Marcia Gilbreath of Gainesville; brother, John T. and wife, Marie Dush of Grapevine; niece, Linda Mills of Corinth; granddaughter, Jennifer Stegemoller of Evant; and three great grandchildren, Tristan, Nikota, and Sierra.
Odie Mae Phillips
Odie Mae Phillips, 80, of Winona, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Quitman Hospital.
Mrs. Phillips was born September 26, 1926, in Winona. She was a graduate of Jackson High School and received her Masters in Education from Texas College. She was a life long resident of Smith County. She was a retired educator, member of Powell Chapel Baptist Church in Winona, member of the choir, church musician, Sunday school teacher, church secretary and church trustee.
She is survived by her husband, Rudolph Phillips of Winona; two daughters, Gloria Stephens (Dennis) of Denton and Brenda Jenkins (Curtis) of Richardson; and four grandchildren, Denise Stephens, Janae Stephens, both of Fort Worth, and Sean Jenkins and Cameron Jenkins, both of Richardson. Mrs. Phillips is preceded in death by her parents and one daughter.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2007, at New Zion Baptist Church in Winona, with Revs. Jesse McLendon and Dr. S. L. Curry officiating. Burial will be in Waters Bluff Cemetery, under the direction of John Harmon Undertaking Company.
Pallbearers are Jerrold Holmes, Chris Williams, Howard Jackson, Cordell Robinson, Brant Cooper, Craig Sharpe, Melvin Mabry and Ronnie Williams. Honorary pallbearers are William Mabry, Raymond Cooper, Welton Williams, Robert Holmes, William Phillips, Sanford Phillips and Charles Sharpe.
Ronald Lee Wood
Ronald Lee Wood, 65, of Denton, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton.
Services are pending with Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Melba Beaty
Melba Beaty, 67, of Southlake, died Wednesday August 1, 2007 at home in Southlake. She was born September 3, 1939 in Celina, TX to Dave and Jublee (Perry) Shinpaugh. She attended school in Celina. She owned and operated her own jewelry store and had worked for B.E.I. Defense in Euless.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday August 3, 2007 at Shiloh Cemetery in Corinth, with Rev. Jim Bradberry officiating. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday August 2, 2007, at the funeral home.
Survivors include her sons, Norman Beaty of Lake Dallas, David Holt of Denison, and Dowlas Beaty of Southlake; sister, Aline Caraway of Allen; brothers, Ray Shinpaugh of Celina, and Roy Shinpaugh of Cartwright, OK; daughters-in-law, Marilyn Beaty of Lake Dallas, and Becky Holt of Denison; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; special friends, Leonard Dorsett of Southlake and Polly Pietz. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Lynn Beaty.
Wilford Lee Treadway
Wilford Lee Treadway passed away peacefully on July 28, 2007 in Denton, Texas. Will was born in Breckenridge, Texas on December 18, 1931.
His parents, Ruth and Jack Treadway, and his younger sister, Ruby, preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Naomi Hood; his children, Jenny Treadway, Justin Treadway, and Jeff Treadway; his grandson, Jason Treadway, wife, Melissa; great-grandson, Jacob Treadway; his niece, Kathy O’ Shield, husband, Jay and son, David; and by his cousins, Jan Jimenez and Laverne Griffiths.
Will served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and went on to work in sales in Texas, Kentucky, and Indiana. Will was an incredibly intelligent and charming man who never met a stranger. He was passionate about old movies, antiques, and reading. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge that remained strong throughout his life. He was well loved and will be greatly missed.
A donation is preferred in lieu of flowers and can be made to American Hospice (300 N. Elm St., Suite 203, Denton, Texas, 76201) whose employees treated Will with incredible competence, compassion, and kindness in his final days.
Mary Sue Dillard Bateman
Mary Sue Dillard Bateman, born November 3, 1936 in Lueders, TX and died August 1, 2007 after an extended illness.
She was preceded in death by parents, Milton Andrew Dillard and Daisy B. McCoy Dillard. Sue is survived by her loving husband, Lt. Col. John Paul Bateman, Ret. USAF; her sons, Stanley Andrew Simmons (and special friend Samantha), Steven Raford Simmons (Katia), Wade Alan Simmons (Marjorie); and granddaughters, Claire and Ruth; son, John Paul Bateman, Jr. (Michelle); and granddaughter, Jenna; Brent Bateman; her brother, Milton McCoy Dillard (Janet); her nephew, Russell Andrew Dillard (Jennifer); and her niece, Julie Dillard Outzs (Kevin); nieces and nephews, Katie and Andrew Dillard, Ava and Denver Outzs.
Sue graduated from Baylor University in Waco, TX and later taught for many years in the Pre-school at First Baptist Church, Denton, TX. She was active in her church and had many friends. In 1987, American Airlines employed her as a Flight Attendant. She was based in Miami and she flew for American until 2001. Teaching young children was one of the joys of her life and later when their granddaughters were born love and joy knew no bounds as she spent all the time she possibly could with Claire and Ruth.
Sue cherished her family, her extended family — aunts and uncles, cousins, her friends and especially her husband, John.

Dani ‘DJ’ Countryman
Dani “DJ” Countryman — A beautiful girl with an infectious smile and a loving heart left this life to be with the Lord July, 28, 2007 in Portland, Oregon while visiting family and friends. Dani was born on May 6, 1992 in Terrell, Texas to Jerri Lea and Gene Countryman.
She is preceded in death by her great grandfather Gene Barton, Her Grandfather Gerald McLane, and her namesake and uncle Daniel Countryman.
Dani is survived by her parents; her grandparents who raised her John and Sandra Wright from Kaufman, Texas and Lea and Kenneth Munden of Kaufman; great-grandparents, Margie Chambers of Kaufman, Texas and May Barton from Portland, Oregon. She is also survived by sisters, Ashley Countryman of Oregon City, Oregon and Niki LeCray from Forney, Texas; and brother, Jeremy McLane of Kaufman, Texas. Her aunts, uncles and cousins, Michael and Misti Julian, with Jacie, Gage, and Caylee Scott of Kaufman; Michelle and Jace Patton, with Stoney and Ridge Patton of Scurry, Texas; Mike and Carla Cullum, with Andrea, Keleigh, Coleton, and Carson Cullum of Denton, Texas.
Visitation will be at Parker-Ashworth Funeral home in Kaufman on Friday, August 3, 2007 from 6 – 8 p.m. Services will be on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the First Assembly of God Church in Kaufman.
In Lieu of flowers the family/friends have set up the Dani Countryman fund at the American National Bank in Kaufman.
