Gertrude A. Beall
Gertrude A. Beall, 93, of Denton, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at her residence. She was born to Henry G. and Edna C. Hendricks Smith on October 10, 1914 in Dial, TX. She married Joseph Ramsey Beall, Sr., on September 5, 1943. He preceded her in death after 39 years of marriage in 1982.
She is survived by her two children, son, Joe Beall and wife, Jackie of Krum and daughter, Jane Howard of Denton. She is also survived by six grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe Smith of Mesquite; sister, Ruth Samuel of Denton; and numerous extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services Chapel. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2008 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Services are under the direction of Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Randy Charles Snider
Randy Charles Snider, 54, of Denton, died Saturday, July 26, 2008 in Denton of natural causes. Randy was born February 22, 1954 in Denton to Gerald and Margaret (Selby) Snider. He was a gifted sculptor. He loved the Native-American culture and, through his chosen medium of sandstone, sought to convey the dignity and heritage of the Plains Indian. He was known by many as “tepee man.”
Survivors include his cherished daughter, and husband of Denton; sisters, Enid Shanahan of Paris and Sherrill Niederer of Argyle; brothers, Tim Snider of Argyle, Tony Snider of Wylie and Dr. Ron Snider of Danville, AR. He is also survived by his two beautiful grandchildren, and mother, Margaret Snider of Argyle.
An outdoor memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 10 at 6:30 p.m. on the grounds of The Country Abbey, 116 North Jackson, Justin, Texas. For map and directions, go to www.the countryabbey.com.
Genevieve Marie Neal
Genevieve Marie Neal, 69, of Denton passed away Friday, August 1, 2008, at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton. She was born January 3, 1939, in Topeka, KS, to Antonio Aldana Romero and Francisca Hernandez Romero. She married Audry Neal on October 23, 1957, in Silsbee, TX.
Mrs. Neal was known as Pepi to her family and friends in Topeka and as Genny to her friends and co-workers in Texas. After graduation from LVN School in 1972 where she came in 2nd in a class of 17 students, Mrs. Neal worked at nursing homes in Sweetwater, Abilene, Big Springs and Denton, where she retired due to health reasons. She took great pride in the work she did. She was very compassionate and gentle. She treated each patient as if he or she was the only person she cared for.
During her children’s school years, she was active in PTA and also took part in extracurricular activities, such as taking a part in her daughter’s dance recital, “The Nutcracker,” and running alongside the sidelines encouraging her football player sons to go for a touchdown. She was a very caring and loving wife, mother and sister.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 5, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Burial will be in Pearsall, TX.
She is survived by her husband, Audry Dee Neal of Denton; daughter, Diana D. Camp of Anchorage, AK; sons, Terry D. Neal of Arlington, Dennis D. Neal of Madisonville, TX; sisters, Virginia Gonzales of Topeka, KS, Lucille Walker of CA; brothers, Salvador Romero, Tony Romero, and Robert Romero, all of Topeka, KS; 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Katherine Cveljo, PhD.
Professor Emeritus, Fulbright Scholar, IREX Alumna
Katherine, born in Farrell, PA in 1921, was raised in Croatia where she completed studies in economics at University of Zagreb (Degreed Economist). Upon return to USA, she pursued studies at Case Western Reserve University: M.S. Library Science, M.S. Slavic Languages and Literatures, and PhD. Library and Information Science.
During her long career in library and information science, she held positions in several libraries, including Cleveland Public Library – Business Information Division, Case Western Reserve University and Ohio State University Library System. She was a professor at several schools of library and information science, retiring as Professor Emeritus from University of North Texas, Denton, Texas in 1988. During retirement years she served as Visiting Professor at University of Missouri, Fulbright Scholar in Slovenia and IREX grant recipient in Slovenia and Croatia for three consecutive years. In retirement she also served as PhD. advisor for numerous students at School of Library and Information Sciences, University of North Texas, Denton, Texas.
She was honored with grants, awards and memberships in honor societies (Beta Phi Mu, Dobro Slovo, and Phi Beta Delta, Kappa Chapter), Croatian Academy of America, and included in numerous biographical directories, Including International Who’s Who of Professional and Business Women. Her writings covered a wide range of interests; however, her primary achievements were in the area of international librarian ship and information science, with noted publications in Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science. She has also contributed with her writings and conference proceedings to Croatian and Slovenian publications. Her most recent writings centered on the destruction of libraries and other cultural institutions in Croatia, which were published in International LEADS, FRONTLINE (IREX), and SLA INFORMATION OUTLOOK.
She traveled worldwide, both on a personal and professional basis, with papers given at conferences. Her hobby to collect ethnic recordings covering East Europe, in particular Croatia, led her to donate a unique collection to University of North Texas, School of Music Library. She has donated her professional collection of journals and books to the Croatian University and National Library, Department of Library and Information Science – University of Zagreb, and Sibenik Public Library.
During her 22 years of enjoyable living in Denton, Texas, Katherine was a member of numerous organizations, including Altrusa, Business and Professional Women, Dickens Society, and served as a volunteer in RSVP. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 2000.
After living in Cleveland for a few years, she moved to Zagreb, Croatia in 2003. Katherine passed away on June 21, 2008 after a lengthy illness. She was interned June 24, 2008 in the family crypt beside her beloved mother, in the Dalmatian city of Knin.
She is survived by sister, Neda; nephew, Peter (Melissa); great-nephew, Nicholas; great-niece, Gabrielle; former sister-in-law, Rose; and numerous relatives and friends in the U.S. and Croatia. Her brother, Joseph, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Croatian Church in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 5 p.m.

Jack E. Daniels, 55, of Denton passed away Friday, August 1, 2008 in Ruidoso, N.M. He was born July 2, 1953 in Dallas. Services are pending with DeBerry Funeral Directors.
