Elizabeth Ann Nichol Dean

Elizabeth Ann Nichol Dean, age 65, of Denton, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Medical Plaza Hospital in Fort Worth. 

Services are pending with Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz & Son Funeral Home in Denton.

John E. Ware

Mr. John E. Ware passed away on Friday, August 1, 2008, at 11:30 p.m. at his home in Flower Mound, TX.

Visitation for Mr. Ware will be Friday, August 8, 2008, from 7 – 8 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home.  Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Ministries in Lewisville, TX.  Interment for Mr. Ware will be Monday, August 11, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX.

Mr. Ware is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cecelia Ware; children, Muriel Furlow, Nathan Ware and Chris Ware; mother, Mrs. Jessie Bell Ware; sisters, Kathleen Williams and Thelma Jackson; and brother, Walter Ware.

Mae Florene Sons

Mae Florene Sons, 86, of McKinney, TX passed away Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Medical Center of McKinney. She was born May 5, 1922 in Oklahoma to Ed Lee and Bithey (Howard) Sons. She was an employee of the Denton State School for over 20 years and retired in 1985. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

A visitation will be held Thursday, August 7, 2008 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Denton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, August 8, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Denton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Bolivar Cemetery. Bill Chandler will officiate.

Mae is survived by her sisters, Ola Robinson and Lola Copeland; grandson, Darrell Pennington and wife, Sandy; granddaughters, Evelyn Matlock, Brenda Pennington, Barbara Pennington and Christina Pennington; thirteen great-grandchildren; and seventeen great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Leon William Robinson; daughter, Jo Evelyn Pennington; three brothers; four sisters; and grandson, Bonny Pennington.

Services are under the direction of Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Charles Ernest Black

Charles Ernest Black, 76, of Denton, passed from this life to his eternal home in heaven at 6:30 a.m., Tuesday morning, August 05, 2008.   He was born in Dalton, GA on December 31, 1931.

Family members and friends will celebrate his life at a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 09, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Denton Bible Church, 2300 W. University Drive, Denton, TX  76209.

Charles is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nell Black; his daughter, Kathy Horton and her husband, Paul; his grandchildren, Peter Horton and his wife, Sarah, Rachel Neuschaefer and her husband, Gary, and their daughter – Charles’ great-granddaughter, Anna.

Roger Utz

Roger Utz, a Christian man, husband, father and grandfather, passed into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, August 06, 2008.

Roger was born in Buffalo, NY in November 1925.  He proudly served his country for four years as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Guam during World War II.  He and Emily were married at All Saints Church in Buffalo in May 1947.

A member of St. Mark Catholic Church since 1994, he was very involved in charitable activities, such as The Daily Bread, the Denton State School and earlier, the Brady Center in Dallas.

Rosary will be said Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church and a Memorial Mass will follow at 10 a.m.  Burial will be at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Emily; his children, Mary Anne Whitecotton, Linda and Scott McDonnold, Michael Utz and Beth Herrick and Don and Melissa Utz; his grandchildren, Trey and September Gabbert, Emily Utz, Rachael Herrick, Alicia Herrick and Robert Utz and Savannah Utz; his sister, Dorothy Bihl and her husband, Clay; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Linda Lee Kraeger

Linda Lee Kraeger, 61, of West Knoxville, passed away tragically Sunday, July 27, 2008.  A native of Guthrie, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Roma M. and Lenora B. Thronesbery. 

Mrs. Kraeger was an English Instructor at Grayson County College, Denison, Texas for 25 years, and founded Grayson's chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta English Honor Society.  She was National President of Sigma Kappa Delta from 2001-2003, and established its first national literary magazine, "Hedera Helix."  A published author, lifelong student, and active humanitarian, she was a member of Denton Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and Westside Unitarian Universalist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Duane Kraeger of Knoxville; sisters, Mary Beth Reece of Dallas and Sharon Campbell of Fort Worth, TX; nieces, Debbie Campbell of Oak Ridge, Jennifer Walton of Fort Worth and Randa Gonzales of Dallas; and her nephew, Mickey Hill of Shawnee, OK. 

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 10, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Westside Unitarian Universalist Church.  The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Linda Kraeger Memorial Fund, c/o Westside Unitarian Universalist Church, 616 Fretz Road, Knoxville, TN 37934.

Betty Lou Magill Hartline

Betty Lou Magill Hartline, age 75, of Krum, passed away Monday, August 4, 2008 at her residence. She was born in Denton on January 19, 1933 to James Marshall and Ruth (Simpson) Magill.

She grew up in Denton, graduated from Denton High School, and received her Bachelor and Master Degrees from University of North Texas (N.T.S.U.). Betty married James Hillman Hartline in Denton on September 3, 1953. She taught for 32 years for Denton I.S.D. before retiring.

Betty was an outstanding teacher, dedicated to the education of her students and remained interested in their accomplishments throughout the years. She impacted many lives.

A wonderful, devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, she was also a devoted Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Denton where she served in many capacities.

Betty is survived by her husband, James; daughter, Karen Thomason and husband, Terry of Forestburg; brother, James Magill and wife, Patty of Canton; and brother-in-law, A.D. Hartline and wife, Jean of Denton. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Kay Hartline on January 7, 2006; and her parents.

Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the First Baptist Church, 1100 Malone St., Denton, Texas 76201. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton. The Rev. Cliff Feeler will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 7 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Mulkey-Mason Jack Schmitz Funeral Home, 705 North Locust St., Denton, Texas 76201

In lieu of flowers memorials contribution may be made to Ann’s Haven Hospice (501 S. Carroll Blvd., Ste. 201, Denton, TX 76201), American Heart Association (Denton Unit -Texas Affiliate, PO Box 15186, Austin, TX 78761-5186) or American Cancer Society (Denton Unit, 3301 W. Freeway, Fort Worth, TX 76107-5709).

Pallbearers will be Ross Robinson, Connor Robison, Leonard Robison, Bredger Thomason, Hardy Burke and Larry Aaron.

 

 

Vera Lois (Fox) Clerihew

Vera Lois (Fox) Clerihew, 79, of Denton, passed away at her residence on Monday, August 4, 2008. Lois was born on February 11, 1929 in Jacksboro to Bertram and Viola (Green) Fox. She was a graduate of Jacksboro High School. On February 17, 1951, she married George Clerihew in Jacksboro. She was a member of the Southmont Baptist Church in Denton, Texas. Lois worked as a secretary for an insurance company.

Visitation for Lois will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Coker Funeral Home, 403 Pecan Street, Sanger, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 7, 2008, at Southmont Baptist Church, 2801 Pennsylvania Drive, Denton, Texas, Larry Reynolds will officiate. Interment will be in the Sanger Cemetery, in Sanger, Texas.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dr. George Clerihew of Denton; two daughters, Carla Ostrander of Ailey, GA and Claudia Wright of Grapevine; one son, George Clerihew, II, of Denton; and eight grandchildren.

 

 

Brandy Patricia Napora

Brandy Patricia Napora was born February 2, 1947 in Royal Oak, MI and passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008 at her home in Denton, TX after a courageous battle with cancer.

Brandy is remembered with love by her husband of 22 years, Norm M. Napora. Brandy enjoyed traveling, skiing, antiquing, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends. She had an eye for quality artwork and spent many years attending local art fairs. Brandy had a special personality; she will be remembered as a ‘one of a kind’.

Her father, Donald Zimmerman, precedes her in death. She is survived by her mother, Lorraine Zimmerman; her brother, John Bulow; and her uncle, William Malloy. She is also survived by her three children, Jennifer Whitlock and husband, Chris, Andrew Napora and wife, Sara and Christine Elias and husband, Michael; and her five granddaughters, Annie and Averi Elias, Caitlyn, Catherine and Caroline Whitlock. She moved to Texas a few years ago to enjoy the family.

A Memorial mass will be held Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 1 p.m. at St. Marks Roman Catholic Church, Denton, Texas.
