Martin M. Hutchins

Martin M. Hutchins passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2009. He passed away of liver failure.

Martin had a full eventful life. He served in the Air Force during the Congo conflict and spent time in the Middle East and North Africa. He was a member of the VFW.

Martin was an owner-operator long haul truck driver. He took many opportunities to visit his relatives all over the United States. He was an amateur radio operator and had a full power radio station in his truck and talked to people all over the world. His call letters were wd5ewv. He was also a private pilot and had an instrument rating. He even flew over gas pipelines in Louisiana to secure more flight hours.

He loved to travel and traveled to over 30 foreign countries. He shared his experiences with friends over his radio and in person. He had an eidetic memory and could talk with knowledge about his travels. He was a shutterbug and took many pictures and films of people and places.

Martin is survived by two children, Mark Hutchins of West Plains, Missouri, and Martin Jr. of Brooksville, FL. Other survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Betsy Hutchins of Denton, TX. He maintained a friendly relationship with his wife and mother of his two children, Judy Philbrick of West Plains, MO. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins.

Services are under the direction of Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services. His ashes will be placed at the graveside of his parents in Forbush Community, North Carolina.

 

 

Lawanna Faye Pike

Lawanna Faye Pike, 67, of Lake Dallas passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009. She was born December 15, 1941 in Muleshoe TX. Faye started a women’s ministry in jails and prisons.

A memorial service will be Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharla Hutson; son, Elmer Sharp; mother, Willie Mae Chapman; brothers, Dudly and Author Strickland; sister, Debbie Pigg; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Charla Ewing; father, J.B. Strickland; and brother, Jerry Strickland.

 

 

Doyle Odean Swink

Doyle Odean Swink

Doyle Odean Swink, 83, of Pilot Point passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2009. He was born on April 5, 1926, in Childress to William and Annie (Graham) Swink. He married his wife Dorothy on June 8, 1949, in Mead, OK. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired from Bell Helicopter as an Aircraft Electrician. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Pilot Point with Dr. Philip Riegle officiating; burial will follow at Belew Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2009, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Huff/Slay Funeral Home.

He is survived by one son, Gary Swink and wife Sandy of Bedford; and one daughter, Beverly McDaniel and husband Buzz of Denton. He is also survived by six brothers, Robert Swink of Durant, OK, Jerry Swink of Glen Rose, Richard Swink of Duncanville, Billy Joe Swink of East Texas, Charles Swink of East Texas, and Fred Swink of Arlington; and one sister Delorese Walker of Keller. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Shelly Jezek of Tioga, Lisa Whitley of Pilot Point, and Andrea, Brentz and Misty Wilcox, all of Fort Worth; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, and four brothers, Dwayne Swink, Carl Swink, Donald Ray Swink and Roy Swink.

Services are under the direction of Huff/Slay Funeral Home, Pilot Point, TX.
