Michael Lee Hatton

Pilot Point – Michael Lee Hatton, 52, of Pilot Point, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 in Bossier City Parish, LA.  He was born on December 25, 1955 in Grand Rapids, MI.  He married Betty Lee Pruitt on July 30, 1982 in Lewisville, TX.  He was an Auto Truck Transporter. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Huff/Slay Funeral Home in Pilot Point. 

He is survived by his wife, Betty Hatton of Pilot Point; son, Ben Hatton of Pilot Point; stepson, Bo Herendeen of Arlington; and stepdaughter, Becky McKinnis of Hutchinson, KS.  He is also survived by his father, Walter Asa Hatton of Trout Creek, MI; mother, Carol Hatton of Leesville, LA; two sisters, Christine Hatton of Trout Creek, MI and Jeannie Marie Viola of Leesville, LA; brother, John Patrick Hatton of Leesville, LA; and three grandchildren.

Jim Richard Bennett

Jim Richard Bennett, age 55, and a resident of Lake Dallas, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.  Jim was born September 19, 1952 to Jack and Eveleen Bennett in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He had been employed with FDIC for 20 years.

Jim is survived by his children, Jennifer Sugg and husband, Bobby, Daniel Bennett, Anthony Bennett, and Amanda Bennett.

A Visitation will be on Friday, August 22, 2008 from 7 – 9 p.m., at Dalton & Son Funeral Home in Lewisville.  Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Dalton & Son on Saturday, August 23, 2008 with burial to follow at Swisher Cemetery in Lake Dallas.  Dr. Bill LaBarr will officiate.

Mr. Milvern King Ivey

Mr. Milvern King Ivey, age 70, of Evant, Texas passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco, TX. Milvern was born April 11, 1938 in Temple the son of Felix Milvern Ivey and Georgia Frances King Ivey. Mr. Ivey married Marsha Gross on September 15, 1972 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was professor of Music at Loyola University, Western Michigan University and University of North Texas. Mr. Ivey was a member of the American Chorale Directors Association and Texas Music Educators Association. 

Funeral services for Milvern King Ivey will be conducted on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas. Burial will follow at Long Cove Cemetery near Lometa.

Mr. Ivey is survived by his wife, Marsha Ivey of Evant; and by a number of cousins and other relatives.

Mr. Ivey was preceded in death by his parents.

Marion E. Hurdis

Marion E. Hurdis, 83, of Denton, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Denton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

 Mrs. Hurdis was born on June 8, 1925 in Paterson, NJ to William H. and Helen E. (Ahnert) Smith. She was married to Dr. Everett C. Hurdis on March 16, 1946 in Passaic, NJ. He passed away on November 26, 2000. She was a member with the faculty wives of TWU and a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Denton.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 23, 2008 at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church at the Bishop Mason Retreat Center, 4700 Wichita Tr., Flower Mound. Father Mark Wright will officiate the service. Entombment will follow at the Bishop Mason Retreat Center.

Mrs. Hurdis is survived by her daughters: Dr. Helen Hurdis Grant and her husband, Kenneth of Fort Yates, ND; Cynthia Hurdis Gentile and her husband, Joseph of Ponder, TX; Holly Hurdis Thomas and her husband, Sam of Arlington, TX; and Dr. Sara M. Hurdis Filler and her husband, Darrell of Reno, NV; grandchildren, Micah C. Grant, Rebecca D. Grant, Jamison K. Coin, David E. Edwards, Catherine A. Edwards, Michael J. Gentile, James E. Wells, Claire A. Thomas, The Rev. Stephen R. Shaver, Elaine M. Shaver and Daniel T. Shaver; nine great-grandchildren; and also her beloved dachshunds, Andy and Fred.  She was preceded in death by her brothers, William H. Smith and Arthur Smith; grandchildren, Michelle L. Johnson, Carolyn A. Hurdis and Rachel E. Wells.

It is with profound sadness that the family and close friends of Dot Pollard Smith, formerly a resident of Denton, Texas, for 36 years, announce her death at the hospital in Jacksonville, Ala., on Sunday, August 17, 2008. She was born Dorothy Christine Pollard to Leonard T. Pollard and Tommie Roxie Braswell at Spring Garden, Ala., on October 31, 1925. Her grandparents were John and Louella Braswell and Ben and Florence Pollard. Dot attended schools in Alabama and was a 1947 graduate of Piedmont High School and the University of Alabama School of Dental Hygiene. On December 3, 1949, she married Randolph Stephens Smith of Birmingham, Ala., at the First Baptist Church in Piedmont, Ala.

Dot and Randy moved to Denton from Birmingham in 1969 to form M&B Products Co. for the production of wire coat hangers. They were both very active in the community.

She and Randy were members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at the Catholic church on Elm Street. Dot was past president of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church’s Alter Society and St. Dorothy’s Circle. She was very active in social, church and charitable organizations. She served on the boards and as a member of Denton Benefit League, Denton City County Day Nursery, Women’s Club, Shakespeare Club, charter member of The Arts Guild, driver and route coordinator for Flow Meals on Wheels, UNT Gaylord Hughes Drama Department, Executive Vice President of Denton County GOP, was employed for 18 years by Dr. George Holladay and later worked for Russell’s Department Store for 12 years until it closed in 2002, as well as coordinating style shows for clubs and churches in the area.

She is survived by her family, consisting of sister Peggy June Pollard Freeman; half brother Joe Pollard and wife Carolyn; brother-in-law H.O. Savage; and sister-in-law Dot Smith, all of Alabama. She has nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and one great-great-niece. Her second family consists of Marilyn Simms; Dr. Scott Simms, wife Misti and sons Jed and Wes, all of Denton; close friends Shirley and Leo Will, Jewel Bush, Eileen and Warren Short, Emilio (Popo) and Lupe Gonzalez, Yolanda and Estabon Saucedo, all of Denton; and a host of other very close and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by Randy, her husband of 38 years who died on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1987; their daughter, Donna Kay, who died at birth; her parents; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Rosary will be said at DeBerry Funeral Directors at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2008. Visitation will be before and after the rosary service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 22, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Chapel, 2255 N. Bonnie Brae St. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.  Pallbearers will be Richard Freeman, Tommy Freeman, Derek Freeman, Josh Freeman, Michael Richards, Warren Short and Dr. Scott Simms.

Wanda Simpson

Mrs. Wanda Simpson passed away Monday, August 18, 2008, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

Visitation for Mrs. Simpson will be Friday, August 22, 2008, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home, Denton, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008, at St. Emmanuel Baptist Church in Denton. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Survivors of Mrs. Simpson include her husband, Louis L. Simpson; three children, Wendall Simpson, Deborah Simpson and Reginald Simpson; four grandchildren; 11 siblings; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ethel Louise Moore

Ethel Louise Moore, 78, a nine-year resident of Denton, Texas, formerly of Wichita Falls, Texas, was taken home by angels on Monday, August 18, 2008, in Denton.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2008, in the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls with the Rev. Steven Hoskins officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.

A daughter of the late Lawrence and Josie (Mahales) Hoskins, Ethel was born on March 5, 1930 in Barry, Ill. She graduated from Barry High School with full honors in track and field. In 1954, she married John Ellison Moore. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Walker and husband Tony of Denton and Debbie Chase of Denton; four sons, Rickie Moore and wife Carolyn of Denton, Randy Moore of Decatur, Texas, Jimmy Moore of Denton, and Tony Moore and wife Cheryl of Krum, Texas; two brothers, Jack Hoskins and wife Pat of Quincy, Ill., and Steve Hoskins and wife Volara of Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She lives on through each of these family members and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008, at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
