Betsy Tandy

Betsy Tandy of Denton, 81, died peacefully on October 25, 2009 after an eleven-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.A memorial service to celebrate Betsy’s life will be held Friday, October 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Denton with the Rev. Matt Gaston officiating.

Betsy will be remembered for her dignity; her loyalty to family, friends, and students; her creativity; her zest for sports and her caring nature.

She was born on December 18, 1927, to Cyrus and Ruth Lacey Tandy in Philadelphia, PA. Shortly, the family moved to Carrollton, KY where Betsy grew up and attended high school. She received her B.S. degree from the University of Kentucky, M.S. degree from Indiana University, and her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. She taught high school physical education and health in Columbus, Ohio. Her teaching, coaching, and leadership extended to Bridgewater, VA; Ohio State University, OH; and Texas Woman’s University where she taught from 1968 until her retirement in 1995.Dr. “T” was the supervisor for student teachers in physical education, taught Sport Sociology and the History of Medicine. She was named Chair of the Health Education Department in 1980.Betsy authored many professional articles and co-authored one book. She received numerous honors from students as Outstanding Advisor/Mentor, both locally and regionally. She was regarded as a teacher who set high standards and helped students achieve them. She was inspired and respected by her mentees. Additionally, her sports contributions as an athlete, sports official and coaching garnered her induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995 and the TWU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.

Through the years, Betsy was active in the life at First United Methodist Church as a receptionist and member of the Greeters Committee. She provided time and service to many civic organizations as a vital worker and member of Interfaith Ministries of Denton, the American Heart Association, United Way of Denton and Habitat for Humanity.

Betsy was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Cyrus (Bucky) Tandy III.She is survived by her loving family – sister, Mary Lacey Tandy Ballmann of Waukesha, WI; four nieces, Betsy, Barbara, Peggy Ballmann and Missy McFarlane of Waukesha, WI; one great niece, Amanda McFarlane; and one great, great niece and nephew, Kierra and Dominick.

Betsy also leaves her caring friend, companion and “best buddy”, Peggy Richardson of Denton; her extended families in the Carolinas, Jean and Lawrence Liles and family and Caroline Richardson Kayota and family; and her “Denton Family” Dr. Bettye Myers, Pat Miller, and Kay Kolb.

Dianna Marie Bedrick

Dianna Marie Bedrick, 63 of Pilot Point passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009.She was born on January 6, 1946 in Pilot Point to Rudolph Joseph and Lillie Marie (Orsak) Bedrick.She had a PHD in Psychology from Oklahoma State University.

Rosary will be said on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 3 pm at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Mass of Christian burial following at 3:30PM, burial will follow at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery.

She is survived by one sister, Lucy Greenwood and husband Terry of Pilot Point and one brother, Rudolph Bedrick, Jr. and wife Minnie of Sanger.

Services are under the direction of Huff/Slay Funeral Home, Pilot Point, TX.

 

 

 

Joe Lee Gorrell, Sr.

Joe Lee Gorrell, 79 of Pilot Point, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009 in Denton.He was born on March 4, 1930 in Pilot Point to Edgar and Emma (Fritcher) Gorrell.He married Dorise Dutton on April 29, 1955 in Gainesville.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 1 pm at Slay Memorial Funeral Center in Aubrey with Jeremy Woods officiating, burial will follow at Pilot Point Community Cemetery.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 from 7 – 8 pm.

He is survived by two sons, Joe Gorrell, Jr. of Haltom City and Randy Gorrell of Springtown and two daughters, Joyce Putman of Haltom City and Barbara Gorrell of Pilot Point.He is also survived by one brother, Bob Gorrell of Haltom City, two sisters, Dorthy Barksdale of Justin and Mae Woods of Gainesville, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and Bobby Joe Gorrell.

Services are under the direction of Slay Memorial Funeral Center, Aubrey, TX.

 

 

 

Wildon E. Eggleston

Wildon E. Eggleston, age 85 of Krum, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Denton Regional Medical Center.

She was born July 14, 1924 in Haslet, Texas to Guy and Jimmie (Moon) Elkins.

She married A.E. (Skinny) Eggleston July 4, 1942 in Grapevine, Texas. He passed away on January 25, 2004. Wildon was a Homemaker and a Baptist.

Graveside Service will be 2 pm Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton. The Rev. Buddy Owens will officiate the service. Visitation will be 7 to 8 pm Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Mulkey-Mason Jack Schmitz & Son Funeral Home.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Martinez and husband Tony of Krum. Sons Danny and wife Michele of Krum. Perry and wife Christine of Sanger. Arthur Joe and wife Mona of Denton, Billy and wife Gloria of Denton; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Kiker Javier Plaza, 5, of Denton passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas while awaiting a heart transplant.He was born September 19, 2004 in Denton to Francisco Javier Plaza and Candace Niblett Plaza.He attended Mother’s Day Out at Southmont Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 27, 2009 from 6 – 8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors.Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Southmont Baptist Church.Pallbearers will be Juan Plaza, Marc Plaza, Curt Stephens and Cody Schroeder. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

He is survived by his parents, Paco and Candace Plaza; sisters, Isabella Nichole Plaza and Magdalena Lee Plaza; brothers, Marc Anthony Plaza and Jakob Manuel Plaza; grandparents, Jane Kiker Niblett, Lonnie and Margaret Niblett and Magdalena Plaza; great grandmother, Herminia Montecillo, many cousins, aunts and uncles.He is preceded in death by his great grandparents, Sam and Tommie Kiker and Carlton and Magel Niblett.

 

 

 

Danny Lee McCullough

Danny Lee McCullough, 61 of Valley View, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2009.He joined his father Edgar McCullough and brother James (Bubby) McCullough. He was born on October 24, 1948 in Carrollton to Edgar and Sudie (Rollins) McCullough.He married Katharyn Strayhorn on June 29, 1968 in Lockney.He has been happily married for forty-one years.He served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War and worked for 25 years at Lily of the Desert.

Danny is survived by his mother Sudie McCullough of Mabank, his wife, Katharyn McCullough of Valley View, daughter, Teresa Luna and husband Frank of Salt Lake City, UT, son, Johnny McCullough and wife Henrietta of Garland and daughter, Sudie McCullough and husband Bruce Blagburn of Valley View.He is also survived by grandchildren, Colton, Brandon, Danny II, Katharyn, Alex, Robin, and Raven and step-grandchildren, Patricia, James and John.As well as brother, Eddie McCullough and wife Marilyn of Athens, sister, Della Moulton and husband Butch of Mabank, brother, Charlie McCullough and wife Trisha of Wolfe City and brother, Terry McCullough and wife Sharon of Nevada and sister-in-law, Maria McCullough of Madrid Seville Spain.Brother-in-law, Kenny Strayhorn and wife Shelia of Valley View, Sister-in-laws, Sueanne Jamison and husband David of Burleson, Georgia Seal and husband Roy of Terrell, Virgie Ransburger and husband Jeff of Wautaga, Mary Vandaford of Ft. Worth, and Brett Vandaford of Garland, and mother-in-law, Marie Strayhorn of Valley View and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends during a visitation to be held, Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Slay Memorial Funeral Center in Aubrey Texas from 7:00 to 8:00PM.Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 10:00AM at Slay Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Reiter officiating.Interment will follow at Pilot Point Community Cemetery.
