John Archer Bragg

John Archer Bragg of Denton went home to be with the lord on Saturday October 31, 2009. He was 96, born May 21, 1913 in Lewisville TX. He was a Cafe owner in Denton from the 1940's to 1970's. He also worked for Denton County. He is most known for being "The Watermelon Man" of Denton. He sold watermelons on the corner of Bell and Sycamore for almost 30 years. He was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church in Denton for the past 73 years.

A visitation will be held on Monday November 2, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at the Denton Funeral Home. Services will be on Tuesday November 3, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Denton Funeral Home Chapel Pastor Randy Snow officiating. Burial will follow at Martin Oaks Cemetery in Lewisville.

John is survived by his wife, Winnie of Denton; three sons, Leonard of Lewisville, Will (Bubba) of Denton and Wayne of Krum; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members. 

Pallbearers will be Jack, Tom and Jimmy Bragg, John Howard and Terry Kirby.

John was preceded in death by his first wife of 63 years Laura Bragg and 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Services are under the direction of Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

 

 

Gerald Allen "Red" Durrett

Gerald Allen "Red" Durrett 62 of Denton passed away Friday, October 30, 2009 at his home. He was born January 11, 1947 in Dallas to Travis O’Neal Durrett and Letha Leota Wofford Durrett. He attended Denton Public Schools and Denton High School. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1922 in Gainesville, TX. He was a retired welder.
The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors Tuesday night from 6-8 p.m. for visitation. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
The family request memorials made to the VFW Post 1922 in Gainesville, TX in lieu of Flowers or to a Charity of your choice.
Red is survived by son, Gary (Charlene) Durrett of Denton, daughter, Marie (John) Quintanillia of Allen, sisters, Joyce (Clem) Deussen of Ponder, Dee (Bob) McClary of Sanger, Ginger (Larry) Deussen for Ponder, brothers, Travis (Aleta) Durrett of Bridgeport, Dick (Linda) Durrett of Bowie, Jim (Jackie) Durrett of Ponder, 5 grandchildren, Cooper, Colton, Gabrielle, Madelyn, Juan Ramon (Johnny), 9 nieces and nephews and 14 great nieces and nephews, brother in law and sister in law, Pete and Mary Jo Chauvin and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Becky Chauvin and brother Everett Durrett.

 

 

Dr. Ralph Nicosia

Dr. Ralph Nicosia, 89, passed away October 26, 2009.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Magnolia Nicosia, and four children, Connie Stever and husband, Tom of Denton, TX, Nanette Flynn and husband, Bernie of Kingwood, TX, Nic Nicosia and wife, Becky of Santa Fe, NM, and Ralph Nicosia and wife, Pat of Dallas, TX.  Eleven grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons. 

Dr. Nicosia served on the board of the Texas State Dental Association.  A past-president of the Walnut Hill Optimist Club and member of the Knights of Columbus, he took pride in serving the community.  He volunteered at St. Paul Hospital for 12 years and also volunteered his services to St. Michael's Children's School and the Discalced Carmelite nuns.

Dr. Nicosia and his wife Nancy enjoyed the opportunity to travel extensively during their 65 years of marriage. 

Visitation was held  Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Sparkman Hillcrest with a Rosary being prayed  Funeral mass was celebrated at Christ the King Church Thurs.day, October 29, 2009.

Paul Tomaso, John Tamaso, Robert Blanchard and Tom Nabors served  as pallbearers.Dr. Ralalph Nicosia, 89, passed away October 26, 2009.

William B. Warde Jr.

William B. Warde Jr. 76 of Denton passed away on Thursday October 29, 2009. Services are pending at the Denton Funeral Home.
