Betty B. Owens

Betty B. Owens, 71, of Denton, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Denton Regional Medical Center.  She was born May 8, 1937 in Tioga to John Irl Peterman and Beatrice Jeffreys Peterman.  She graduated from Denton High School, was an underwriter for an insurance company and a member of LaPrada Drive Church of Christ is Dallas.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 4, 2008 from 7 – 9 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors.  Graveside services will be Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Old Celina Cemetery in Celina.

She is survived by sister, Frances Vernell Vaughn; nieces, Bertha Leanne Phillips, Callie Laney and Walter Laney, Nancy Elizabeth Vaughn, and Nancy Connie Marsh; nephews, Thomas Irl Vaughn, William Robert Vaughn, Burt Hunter Phillips and Miranda Phillips, Clifford DeLane Phillips and Rosie Phillips, Randy Joe Phillips and Gloria Phillips, and Walter Clayton Brooks; great-nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Hall, Rebecca Laney, Reba Vaughn, Andrea Vaughn, April Morris and Jessie Morris, and Robert Phillips; great great-niece, Emma Grace Vaughn.  She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Timothy Earl Owens; sister, Henrietta Peterman; and brother, William Robert Peterman.

 

 

Silvia Manuel

Silvia Manuel, 29, of Denton, Texas passed away Friday, October 31, 2008, at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Silvia was born Nov. 22, 1978 in Mexico City, Mexico to Andres Manuel and Maria Silvestre Piedra. She married Antonio Rangel in 1999 in Mexico.

Silvia is survived by her parents, Andres Manuel and Maria Silvestre Piedra; her husband, Antonio Rangel; her sons, Alan Aaron Rangel Manuel and Klebher Rangel Manuel; her sister, Jasmin Manuel; and her brothers, Gualberto Manuel and Gustavo Manuel.

Visitation was held Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008 from 4 – 8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors.

Virgie Lyons Phillips Hayden, 85, of Denton, Texas passed away on Friday, October 31, 2008 at her residence. Born December 10, 1922, she was the daughter of Henry and Betty Lyons of Reynolds Station, KY.  She was a member of Southmont Baptist Church in Denton, Texas. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Graveside Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro, Kentucky.

Her husbands, Cecil Phillips and Charles W. Hayden, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children, Pat Hennings and husband, Dick of Denton, Texas and Fonya Miller and husband, Tom of St. Louis, Missouri; step-children, Larry Hayden and wife, Carol of Utica, Kentucky, Mike Hayden and wife, Sue of Utica, Kentucky, Dolores DeVillez and husband, Jim of Kuttawa, Kentucky, and Donna Koger and husband, Mike of Owensboro, Kentucky; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and pet cat, Blackie.

Virginia Louise Swaney

Virginia Louise Swaney, 79, of Denton, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton. She was born November 27, 1928 in Dallas to Willis and Dessie Lois (Kennington) Bridges. She survived both of her husbands, Raymond Harry Martin, and Del Swaney. She was a Homemaker and member of the Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 in the Club Room of Fair Oaks Retirement Center, 1950 Lattimore St., Denton, with Rev. Frank Lott officiating.

Mrs. Swaney is survived by two daughters, Virginia Bezzy of Slidell, and Nita Redmon of Ponder; and a son, Richard E. Martin of Lake Dallas; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

Sarah Imogene Grimes

Sarah Imogene Grimes, 76, of Sunset, TX, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2008 in Bowie. She was born on October 1, 1932 in Camey, TX to Emmett and Ruby Pannell. She married Thomas J. Grimes on March 24, 1949. Sarah was the manager of the Silverdome Mobile Home Park for many years, as well as a homemaker.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11 a.m., at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Denton.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Phelps and husband, Rickey of Sunset, TX; brother, Alton Pannell of Lake Kiowa, TX; grandson, Ronnie Phelps and wife, Heather of Sunset, TX; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; and brothers, Elmer, Bobby, and Gerald Pannell.

Services are under the direction of Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
