Charlie George Belz

Charlie George Belz, 94, of Sanger passed away, Monday, December 17, 2007, in Sanger. He was born on March 25, 1913 in Taylor, Texas to Ewald & Christina (Reiter) Belz. He married Doris McMillan on July 9, 1965. Mr. Belz was a farmer and member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sanger.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Belz of Muenster; two daughters, Jannie Kraft of Boulder, CO. and Lenae McMillan of Forestburg; one son, Kenneth Belz of Valencia, CA; sister, Susie Poenitz of Arlington; brother, Ivine Belz of Keene, TX; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 802 Utility Road, Sanger, Texas.

Cremation services are under the direction of Coker Funeral Home.

Omadell Pennington Lee

Omadell Pennington Lee, 81, of Denton, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2007. She was born January 22, 1926 in Denton to James and Mildred Pennington. She married Warren Lee on March 24, 1948 in Minneapolis, MN. She was a graduate of Denton High School and earned her Bachelors degree in 1948 at North Texas State University.

Survivors include her husband, Warren; sister, Oralee Richards of Nacogdoches, TX; and brother, James Homer Pennington of Shady Shores, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Juanita Doyle.

Services are under the direction of Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Doris Ida Young

Decatur - Doris Ida Young, 84, a homemaker, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2007, in Springtown.  Family surrounded her as she peacefully went to be with her Lord.

Ms. Young was born March 14, 1923, in Baltimore Maryland, to Albert Pizzica and Maria Mirto.  She married Vern Lee Young on March 13, 1946 in Decatur, Texas.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, at the Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, No. 1.  Rev. Sonny Smith,  Verl Young and Jackie Boyd will officiate.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Vern Lee “Curley” Young of Decatur; son, Gordon Young and wife, Patty of Springtown; Verl Young and wife, Pat of Denton; grandchildren, Shane Young and wife, Melissa of Decatur; Stormie Meador and husband, Jeff of Decatur; Deana Melancon and husband, Ben of Gainesville; Kimberly McDaniel of Denton; six great-grandchildren; sister, Ola Martin of New Windsor, Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lillian Pacheco Raposa

Lillian Pacheco Raposa, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 14, 2007, at a Kilgore Nursing Facility. She was born December 28, 1917 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Miss Lilly never married, instead dedicating her life to caring for various family members. She possessed a beautiful singing voice, was a wonderful cook and had a quick wit and charm that endeared her to everyone she met.

Her immediate surviving family members include her sister and roommate of 45 years, Irene Francis, of Kilgore, TX; niece, Pamela Deceault and husband, Richard Deceault of Kilgore, TX, with whom she lived for many years; godson and nephew, Frank Francis and wife, Lorna of Castroville, TX; and many other nieces and nephews whose lives were greatly and positively influenced by Aunt Lil. Extended precious family members are Jimmy and Tawanah Tanner of Kilgore, TX.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the America Red Cross, East Texas Piney Woods Chapter, Longview, Texas, as Miss Lilly held much gratitude and a special place in her heart for the Red Cross Organization.

Virginia Grace Clement Boyette

Virginia Grace Clement Boyette, 75, of Denton, died Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Denton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Mrs. Boyette was born April 3, 1932 in Gainesville, TX to Everett and Grace (Ward) Bosley. She was married to Lloyd Clement in Gainesville in 1951. She was a Caretaker for many years at the Denton State School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Elks Lodge and was a Pythian sister.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday December 18, 2007 at Valley View Cemetery, Valley View, TX. Rev. Cliff Feeler will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday December 17 at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, TX 76201.

Survivors include her daughter, Olivia Solomon and her husband Ray of Denton; son, Matt Clement and his wife Paulette of Ponder; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Tim Clement and sister, Barbara Robison.

 

Billy Nolan Chambers

Billy Nolan Chambers went home to be with our Lord on December 15, 2007 after suffering lengthy health problems. He was born to Dovie and J.L. Chambers on June 30, 1929 in Athens, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Hilley Q. Chambers.

He was a professional musician working in the Dallas Area since the age of 15. He worked with Dewey Groom at the Longhorn Ballroom for many years. He also owned Bill Chambers Barber Shop for over 50 years on Live Oak Street. He had many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Jean of 42, sons, Jerry and Larry Chambers, both of Dallas, daughter, Tracy Ernst and son in law, David Ernst of Denton, grandsons, Bryan Chambers and Matthew Ernst, brothers, Leon and Kenneth Chambers, both of Dallas, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors Tuesday from 5-7:00 p.m. for visitation. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2007 in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with Rev. John Peel officiating. Burial will be at the Swisher Cemetery in Lake Dallas.

 

Gene Shackelford Jr.

Gene Shackelford Jr., 59, loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend and coach, passed away December 15, 2007 in Denton. He was born January 10, 1948 in Knox City, Texas, to Gene Shackelford Sr. and Billie Maurine Hill Shackelford. He graduated from Stamford High School in Stamford, Texas and received his Bachelors of Business Administrators degrees in Economics and Business Administration from McMurry College in Abilene, Texas and received a Masters of Education degree in Supervision from Texas Woman’s University in 1983. He was a life member of the “Texas High School Coaches Association”, a lifetime member and Director of “The Old-Timers Cowboys Association” of the Texas Cowboy Reunion in Stamford, Texas, Past member and officer of the Gorman’s Lion’s Club, 1977 Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Football Selection Committee, 1983 Class AA Football State Champion Coach with an undefeated season. In 2001, he received Mirabear B. Lamar “Award of Excellence” from the Masonic Lodge #716 in Gorman. In 2003, he was given a Honorary Life Membership to the “Texas Association of School Administrators.” He touched the lives of many coaches, teachers, school administrators, students, atheletes, FFA and 4H members.

He married Marsha Lynn Royall on June 6, 1969, in Stamford, Texas. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Denton.

Visitation will be Monday, December 17, 2007, from 7-8 PM at the DeBerry Funeral Directors. Services will be Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at 10:00 AM in the First Presbyterian Church of Denton with Reverend Steve Nilmeier officiating. Pallbearers will be David Gage, Bruce Larance, Bill Reed, Jerrell Burleson, Danny Bellah, Norman Waters, Joe G. Cartwright and Brad Keck. Honorary pallbearers will be, John Langsford and Mike Terry.

Viewing will be Wednesday from 8:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at Kinney Funeral Home in Stamford, Texas. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM in the Johnson Cemetery in Munday, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha of Denton; his daughters, Stacie Leah and husband, Josh, Stegman of Wylie, Texas, and Jennifer Ann and husband, Blake, Guthery of Early, Texas; his son, Kelly Dale and wife, Margaret Shackelford of Bowie, Texas; father, Gene Shackelford of Stamford, Texas and his sister, Vickie Maurine Jones of Hawley, Texas, and 4 Grandchildren, Carter and Davis Shackelford, and Zachary and Mackenzie Stegman. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bille Shackelford on January 16, 2002.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
